Nice casual look
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I like these pants because they are so stretchy and comfortable. They’re very lightweight and cool so they may not work good on really cold weather. They would be great in the summer. They look well enough to dine out with them because they don’t look like hiking pants. The fit is true to size.

My Go-To for Early Season Hikes
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I picked up the Outdoor Research Ferrosi Pants in the solid Morel color (34" waist, 32" inseam). I'm 5'10", 208 lbs, and the fit is spot-on—true to size compared to my other pants in the same waist. Sizing note: I probably could've gone with a 30" inseam instead, as the 32" bunches a bit over my boots, but it's not a dealbreaker. These pants are incredibly lightweight with solid wind resistance and enough water repellency to handle light rain or a bit of early-morning drizzle without soaking through. I've worn them down to 29°F and felt a chill in the cold morning air (no base layer), but once temps climbed into the 50s, they were perfectly comfortable on their own—breathable and never clammy. The standout feature? Four-way stretch that moves with you in every direction. Whether scrambling, hiking steep trails, or just powering through miles, they feel unrestricted. Compared to my Columbia Silver Ridge Utility pants, the Ferrosi fabric feels way more breathable, softer against the skin, and far less prone to snagging or tearing on trail thorns, pointy sticks, or brush. Durability has held up great so far—no regrets at all. I've already put nearly 50 miles on them in tough conditions: early morning rain, light snow flurries, and 45 mph gusts. They performed flawlessly and dried quickly. These are going to be my staple for spring and fall in the PNW—perfect for early-season trips to Mt. St. Helens, Adams, and the Goat Rocks. Outdoor Research nailed it with the Ferrosi Pants. Lightweight, stretchy, tough enough for real trails, and versatile for variable weather. Highly recommend if you're looking for a reliable shoulder-season hiking pant!

First time I've worn hiking pants. These were great. 38° and breezy, was totally warm. Good fit. Like the pocket setup (can Always have more though!). Good breathability and flex/stretch.

Pilling fabric is a deal-breaker
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
This is my second pair of the Ferrosi pants. I was very satisfied with the first one (which was Khaki color). I was surprised to see some slight pilling of the fabric on the upper part of the legs after a few washes, but it wasn't too bad so when they went on sale again I decided to get a different color, Pewter. This time the pilling is unacceptably worse. I've only worn these a 5 or 6 times and the fabric on the upper legs looks awful - see photos. While they are still great as trail pants, I'm embarrassed to wear these in town. I wanted more colors but no way will I buy these pants again.

Yes, but…
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Yes, I’ve only worn these on a handful of consecutive hikes, and yes I’ve noticed some pilling of the fabric even before their first wash. But they fit great and they are insanely comfortable, and feel very durable yet lightweight and tactical/technical. The deep jeans-style front pockets don’t bother me like other reviewers. And I thought maybe I’d miss the convertible pants/shorts these are replacing, but I could wear these all day. And I find the low-profile leg pouch and zippered back pocket to cover the bases. I don’t want to use my pants as a giant storage container anyway. They are very cooling and provide all-day UV protection. I can already say I’d buy these pants again and again.

Versatile hike and travel
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Just returned from 3 weeks in Italy and the Alps. The pants fit well and were comfortable. I appreciate the zippered thigh pocket, which stores my phone nicely without impairing movement. Lightweight fabric was easy to hand wash and dry to keep fresh clothes throughout trip.

Not durable
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
These pants look good out of the bag and are comfortable. With the drawstring closure, you don't need a belt. Colors are good. Sizing good/accurate. However....the fabric and stitching are of extremely low quality. After just three days of hiking, the fabric is starting to pill and wear thin at the knees and seat. I can see fuzzy threads worming out of the fabric. The stitching in key places like seat pocket and crotch is starting to come apart. My Patagonia Quandary pants (market comparable pants) are >4 years old and have none of these issues after >100 days of wear. If you want to wear these around the house like sweat pants, then buy them and enjoy them for the short time they'll last. If you plan to actually wear these outdoors, don't waste your money. I am an OR fan so am disappointed. Do better!!!

Lightweight and Breathable Comfort
The Ferrosi Pant is impressively lightweight and offers great breathability, keeping me cool even during intense hikes. It’s soft, flexible, and feels comfortable all day long—perfect for both outdoor adventures and casual wear.
