Titanium Aero Skewer
Although these quick-release skewers come from Zipp, they aren't relegated to just that brand, and if you're looking for some aerodynamic, lightweight, and smart looking skewers for your road wheelset, have a look at the Titanium Aero Skewer. Featuring titanium shafts and hollow, alloy levers, they barely trouble the scales at 65 grams and when the levers are positioned appropriately, Zipp claims the skewers will save you up to 2 watts of drag.
- Titanium skewers for secure clamping, lightweight, and aerodynamics

These are really light and cool looking skewers, but they just don’t work very well on my Ti road bike frame. My rear wheel slipped a few times while climbing, fortunately not enough to stop me completely.
No matter how hard I tightened these, they just didn’t grip well enough. The levers are very small, and external cam skewers don’t provide as much leverage as the heavier internal cam designs, so I went back to my standard Campy skewers. They’re much heavier, but I’ve never had one slip or fail in many years of riding.
Other frames may not have this issue, it may be that my Ti frame doesn’t allow enough “bite” for these skewers to hold, but saving a few grams isn’t worth risking a crash.
