VolcomL Gore-Tex Jacket - Men's

Light on weight, heavy on protection.

The "L" in the Volcom Men's L Gore-Tex Jacket stands for lightweight, and the "Gore-Tex" stands for waterproof and breathable. Fully taped seams prevent powder, snowfall, and even a single snowflake from seeping through, and the V-Science breathable lining system makes this jacket comfortable on sweaty, steep skins to the summit.

Volcom's Guide Proven Technology gives the L Jacket a semi-relaxed fit with a straight hem for straight-up stylin' and easy layering. There are zippers under each arm for ventilated airflow, and the powder skirt adjusts for secure coverage. Volcom's Zip Tech connects this jacket to compatible ski pants for complete coverage.

Does the job

  • Size Bought: XL

A GoreTex shell that functions how it should. Repels water on the wet days, and provides nice wind protection on storm days. I like my apparel loose fitting, so I got an XL in Black. I am 6'2" and pretty average build. I really like how inconspicuous of a jacket it is. W

wish it had wrist gators, that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars

Go-to snowboard jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I picked up this jacket right before this epic season kicked off, and I've loved every minute I've spent in it. Keeps you nice and dry, plenty of room to layer underneath if you want to. Pit zips are great for when you need to drop some heat, and the pockets are perfect.

If you go with this jacket and are also in the market for some pants, I would recommend buying a pair of Volcom pants as well so that you can take full advantage of the Zip-tech integration. The pants will zip into the jacket to keep you dry on those blower pow days. Or, if you're just a snowboarder on a regular day and you need to sit down to adjust or strap in to your bindings.

  • Fit: Runs small

Love the jacket! Only issue is it runs a little small I'm 5'8 175 ibs athletic build. Tight around the arms no real give. I have to have the vents open under the armpits just so i can move around and grab. Other then that love the style of the jacket

Stay away! 686 GLCR is waaaay better

This jacket feels cheap and fits weird. Do yourself a favor and get the 686 GLCR instead. You will save money and have a better jacket in the end!

Nice Jacket - Held up 2 weeks in Canada

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: Medium

Bought this to replace a tri-layer from another brand and it is superior! I braved the coldest 2 weeks of Canadian winter snowboarding recently in Whistler and Banff with this jacket. Also used in Aspen beforehand and will be using again for 3 more upcoming trips this season.

Underneath I wore a base layer thermal, a light mid layer, and my bib that covers my back and chest. Very comfortable, light, and kept me dry. I'm 5'8" 155lbs and wear the medium. It is longer than I'd like which at first I thought was a deal breaker since it binded my legs together too much when zipped up... but with the double zipper I can unzip the bottom zipper however much I want for more leg room/stretching. FYI the top front zipper is also a whistle! Love the hood and how high it zips up past the chin for extra wind protection. Also, had one sunny day in Aspen about 38 degrees F which usually makes it warm when snowboarding, but with the breathability of the jacket, underarm zippers and one light base layer.. I had no problems.

2 things I wish it had was another front chest zipper pocket on the right side and hand/wrist gaiters, but not a big deal. I plan on using this jacket until the day it gives out however long that may be. And probably get another when that happens. GREAT jacket!

    Awesome jacket

Best jacket I've owned. Keeps me warm and dry with minimal under layers.

      Great value gore-tex

Awesome jacket for snowboarding. Durable fabric, and looks good.

        Buy it!

Love my Volcom outerwear, especially the L Gore-Tex jacket. It is very comfortable to wear and lightweight. Really like the Zip Tech, and use it for the deep blower days, but find the clips to my Volcom pants are a little faster to get in and out of. The chin is nice and high. The hood fits perfect. I do wish it have Lycra hand gaiters, but being of Lightweight "L" status, it makes sense Volcom made it simple. Fit is nice and long in the sleeves and torso, I'm 6'2"/185lbs with 34-35" sleeve and wear the large with room for plenty of layers and movement. I could probably fit in a Medium, but like a little extra room. This is a killer shell and I'd highly recommend it!

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: M

This was given as a gift. He told me on the mountain it performs beautifully and when coupled with Volcom pants they zip together so NO snow is getting in there even on your biggest pow pow days! He said he also gets plenty of compliments around town about how well the jacket looks.

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
        • Fit: Runs large
        • Size Bought: Large

I ended up returning this jack due to the large size being to big. I did not exchange for a smaller size as I traditionally fit into a large and was afraid the medium may be to small. I am 5'9

        Amazing shell.

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

        • Size Bought: small

Finally got the chance to test this jacket out in a heavy snowstorm this past weekend with uncharacteristically wet snow, at least for Utah standards. It performed beautifully, keeping me bone-dry while everyone else was soaking wet! Another bonus was its impressive breathability- I never had to open the pit zips for extra ventilation.

Please note, the face fabric eventually wetted out, meaning the DWR finish stopped working. However, that was after 5+ hours of riding in super wet, heavy snow. Any waterproof jacket's face will eventually succumb to soaking moisture. What truly matters is the jacket's membrane, which proved an impenetrable barrier to moisture.

I'm rocking the size small, at 5'8" and roughly 145-pounds. It fits just right, being a touch longer than normal for full coverage when you're riding. I normally wear a size medium jacket with it cinched tightly, but this fits much better without the excess bagginess. If you're any larger than me, I'd recommend sizing up to the medium for layering purposes.

        Very Breathable!

I have used this splitboarding and it is rad shell! Didn't have to layer up a lot, but seriously comfortable going up, not over heating either!

        First Impression

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I wore this jacket in Keystone for a short weekend of riding. Weather went form sunny and mid to high 40s to 30 and snowing. Even when it was dumping big, wet flakes and 30 and below I stayed dry. I wore a thin base layer, my old Patagonia R1 and this shell and was perfectly warm. When it was sunny and 45+ degrees I wore just a thin base layer and this jacket and remained cool and dry. No overheating. My only complaint is the cuff system. It is a simple velcro and doesn't keep the snow out as well as I would like. Other than that was incredibly please with this purchase and can't wait to run it through the ringer next year. Great for the price!

        Awesome protection for the price

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size

Can't beat the $289 price for 2 layer Gore-Tex. Depending on how many layers you have can determine the size you get though. If you have a down jacket that's on the thicker side, such as an Arc'teryx or a Patagonia, you may want to size up, but it's true to size other than that.

        Great over all!

I've really enjoyed this jacket so far. Very comfortable and stylish at the same time. I love having the hooks on the inside of the hood that attach to your goggle strap. It does an excellent job of keeping the hood from getting in the way of my view while riding. The only disappointment is that there are no wrist gaiters. It seems like that should be a given feature, but it's left out. Either way, I still love this jacket!

          Price point GORE

Its not only one of the best priced Gore-tex snowboard jackets I could find, but offers all the bells and whistles I need in a jacket. The zip tech works like a dream and keeps you safe from all the elements.
With a classic regular fit and simple colors its a no brainer for any rider who is ready to take on the whole mountain.

I am very new to ordering anything snow related. I bought ordered this one easier this afternoon. Does this coat by chance have a hood on it? I can't tell myself, looks like it, but again very new to snow clothes.

Does this jacket have hand gaiters?

          Hey Levi,

Yes, this jacket indeed has wrist gaiters!

          Hey Levi,

If your asking about lycra hand gaiters check out the Volcom Stone Goretex jacket!
