Troy Lee Designs A2 MIPS Helmet
Troy Lee DesignsA2 MIPS Helmet

Hit the trails.

Full-faced helmets have their place on rowdy lift laps and jumps, but some days aren't as extreme, so it's good to have a Troy Lee Designs A2 MIPS Helmet waiting in the wings. Building on a well-earned reputation for hard-hitting motocross and gravity protection, the A2 transitions protection to lighter duty trails with massive venting, ample coverage, and MIPS technology to keep you cool under duress.

With 25% more ventilation than that found on TLD's venerable A1 helmet, the A2 MIPS promotes cooling airflow and encourages constant air movement across your dome. A removable, soft and plushy X-Static Pure Silver liner sits comfortably against your head, fending off the stink produced by bacteria and drying quickly to keep you cool. Not to ignore fit, the A2 MIPS helmet incorporates a three-position adjustable retention system for a custom, easily dialed fit.

  • A lightweight helmet built for all-day trails
  • MIPS technology reduces rotational force in certain crashes
  • EPS and EPP foam mix absorbs low and high speed impact
  • Extended coverage at back and temples increases protection area
  • Large vents promote cooling airflow
  • Highly adjustable retention system dials in the fit
  • Visor fends off branches and glaring sun

Looks great, but didn't work for me.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I've got a wierd melon. At 23 inches I'm on the big end of a medium and the small end of a large. With a sweat band the medium is too small, but the large looks like I should be cast on spaceballs. Ended up returning it.

Awesome!

Great Lightweight helmet with a good fit. Looks clean and protects your dome, not much more Id want from a helmet.

Amazing Helmet

This is by far the best helmet I've ever used. If you like the A1 then you will love this helmet. Same great fit with awesome venting and style. Tons of color options to choose from too. Hard to beat!

I love my A2

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I was reading a lot of reviews on MTB helmet and Troy Lee A2 came up on the top. I have to say I love this helmet, it’s worth it.

Looks Awesome

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Troy Lee always looks awesome and works great. This helmet is no different. It does have some adjustments on the back to dial in the size and chin straps. Has mips and feels great. I would recommend this helmet to anyone who bikes and is looking for safety and style.

Excellent Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is the best MTB helmet I have ever owned...it's the third one I've bought in the last four years. Great quality. Very lightweight and adjustable. I'm really glad I decided on the A2.

Hi there, my head circumference is about 23.25". What size would you recommend for this helmet?

XL/XXL fits a head circumference of 22.6 - 24.8in.

I'm a size 22 and have a hard time getting a good fit, usually get a medium and have to tighten it all the way down. Would the XS/SM in the A2 be the correct size to go with? Thanks

Hey William,

Great question as the size ranges for Troy Lee are different than a lot of other brands. If you measure 22 inches, I would do the XS/S and that should fit just fine.

Great helmet

This is far and away the best helmet I’ve ever worn in my 30 years of mtn biking. The fit is fantastic, very comfortable and light yet you just feel totally protected. I bought a second one to have where I spend about a week a month and have my old bike.

    Put a lid on it

Very comfortable and stylish helmet. My first MIPS experience and it seems to have a great fit. I got this helmet to provide more coverage for enduro racing.

      Put a lid on it

      Fantastic!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was recently inspired to invest in a better helmet after the death of a mountain biker on one of our local trails... It didn't take long for me to decide on this Troy Lee helmet when shopping around. This model came in XL--perfect for my fat head. .. As I was unpacking, my first impression was that this helmet has been meticulously engineered and designed for safety. It looked impressive just sitting in its box! Today was the first day that I wore it on a ride, and I can say without a doubt that this is the best mountain biking helmet I have ever owned. The difference between a $135 helmet (this one) and a $65 dollar helmet is truly insane. What you get for $135 will not only possibly save your life one day, but also make you feel good that you are doing the best you can to protect your precious melon! Buy one!

      Awesome

        Great fit and light weight

        Great Helmet

Like most TLD products, this helmut has been great. The fit is perfect and the ventilation is amazing.

          Great protection but some limitations.

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
          • Fit: True to size
          • Size Bought: M/L

Bought this after my re-entry into mountain biking. The fit is great and the protection I can attest to - crashed pretty heavily and the helmet was "dented", but protected my noggin' as it should have. It is comfortable and light and vents fairly well in the hot New Mexico climate. The only reason I deducted a star is that the helmet does not have a lot of clearance for glasses. I find that after some time descending a rocky trail that the helmet starts to push down on my glasses. I'm constantly having to readjust the helmet and glasses which gets pretty gnarly in technical descents. If you don't wear glasses this is a non-issue, but if you do, beware. The helmet fits great when you first try it on but take it out for a ride before you plunk down the cash.

Do you mean prescription glasses or sun glasses? I always wear some sort of eyewear for protection and can't have the constant fiddling with helmet and glasses as you describe.

Troy Lee Designs A2 MIPS Helmet

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Loved the look of this helmet when I first saw it! I did a bunch of research before I would even consider spending this kind of dough on a helmet. Arrival day, was super stoked on the looks and the way it fit my head. Even more stoke was present when I took it for the first ride. The helmet seemed super light and was like air conditioning for my melon. I barely noticed the helmet on my head while riding. All the features of the helmet are designed well and work for what they are intended. I was very hesitant about spending this kind on money on the helmet but super glad I pulled the trigger in the end. Hopefully I never test the durability during a crash to see how the shell and the MIPS performs. I'm a father of 3 on a budget and don't regret buying this at all. Definitely the best helmet I've worn to date in my 23 years of mtn biking.

          TLD A2 Helmet

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The new A2 is nothing short of excellent!! The redesign from the A1 gives it a more modern look as well as greatly improved ventilation. MIPS comes in every model now and I've fortunately/unfortunately experienced first-hand how well it works. The new fit feels amazing as well; it basically hugs your head and doesn't slide around.

          New helmet, new cool

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought this as a replacement for a POC Trabec Race MIPS helmet that took a nasty beating (and held up great! - would have replaced it but couldn't get the color/size I needed). So I spoke to the bike merchandising team and they suggested I try this one, and I have been really happy with it. It's comfortable and cool (especially important here during Utah summers) and looks pretty awesome. I haven't taken any hits in it yet (knock on wood!) but with the density and MIPS, i'm confident my brain will be protected!

          Excellent Brain Protection

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Decided to purchase this helmet after reading many reviews. Wanted a helmet that had the most up to date technology for protecting my brain. Was between the poc tectal and the A2. After trying both on, went with the tld cause it just felt better. No pressure points or rubbing. Lightweight. Adjustable inside to make sure helmet is nice and snug. Would definitely recommend to a friend for cross country style riding. highly breathable with lots of circulation.

          Bitchin Trail Helmet!

          • Fit: True to size

I've been riding in the Smith Forefront for the last two seasons (GREAT helmet BTW) but I decided it was time to give TLD a shot. This helmet is super light, and has ALL THE VENTS. It also features tons of adjustment options to dial in the fit. I wear a 7 3/8 baseball hat, and the M/L fits me well.

Best MIPS MTB helmet out there

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After using the POC tectal race all of last season, I decided it was time to give TLD's new A2 a shot this season.... I am so stoked I did!

I don't think I have an oddly shaped head, but after trying out multiple helmets and sizes (including the Smith Forefront MIPS, this helmet and the Giro Montaro MIPS) - the A2 was the clear winner.

The A2 boasts a stellar look and style to it - not to mention they have some sick color ways to choose from. This lid also has the latest helmet technology, MIPS, which stands for Multi-Directional Impact Protection System which keeps your head and neck safer than a standard helmet. The A2 also is fairly light, has great ventilation and one of the more solid adjustable systems in the back of the helmet.

Give me a shout if you are wondering what colors look best in person, what size to go with or other TLD/mountain biking gear is out there!

Best MIPS MTB helmet out there

Debating on the 50/50 white red or the all white with pinstripes. What do u recommend ?
