The North FaceThermoBall Insulated Jacket - Women's

Insulation in a stylish package.

Stroll through snowy city streets in The North Face Women's Thermoball Insulated Parka. PrimaLoft's innovative ThermoBall insulation mimics down feathers in order to provide the warmth you'd feel in most 600-fill down jackets, and it protects you from moisture in the same way that quick-drying synthetic insulation is known for. Unlike most synthetic insulation, however, ThermoBall makes this parka packable, compressible, and lightweight for traveling in cold conditions. And if you're not so much a city slicker as you are a mountain girl, the internal elastic cuff, hem cinch cord, and zip front pockets do a fine job of keeping the chill of frozen precipitation on the outside.

  • Synthetic puffy for chilly days in the city or on the trail
  • ThermoBall is lofty, compressible, and retains warmth when wet
  • Slim fit allows jacket to be worn comfortably as midlayer
  • Internal zippered chest pocket for valuables and stuff sack

Fit was poorly represented

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: L

This jacket has absolutely NO contour to it as represented in the photo. It is boxy and has no curve to the torso. The L was the right size but fit weird so I ordered an XL. The XL fit even weirder and was way too big. I understand the utility purpose of the jacket is to keep you warm, but for the price I expected it to be cut for a woman. If you have a stocky build and no waist this would work well. Also keep in mind you will be charged return shipping.

Would the The North Face ThermoBall Insulated Jacket - Women's be ok as a mid-layer for skiing, underneath a shell? Or is it more a casual wear puffy?

Hey Hannah, the thermoball can definitely be used a midlayer for skiing. That being said it would be best purposed for mild winter weather. For the coldest days you may need more layers or a warmer puffy. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out via the information listed above.

I am glad I purchased it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

I have been looking for a down jacket for the hike up to Mount Whitney in May for a backpack trip. I am 5 ft tall and 118 lbs, and I bought a size medium jacket. The jacket was not tight and I was able to wear a base-layer shirt and 1/4 thin fleece shirt comfortably. This jacket is pack-able and it can fit in a pocket entirely. All the pockets have zippers to prevent items falling out. This is one of the few jacket with drawstring at the bottom so I could keep my body warmth. Additional point is I can wear this jacket under Venture rain jacket, so it will improve warmth and also not to get wet. I picked pink jacket in case I need to get rescued - the color is blight but tasteful, and I think I will be wearing in town!

Beautiful color, warm yet lightweight

Love this jacket! The maroon color is beautiful, and it is lightweight but still warm and cozy.

Love this lightweight jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

Have a thermoball vest and have been wanting a jacket too. Great product, lightweight and stylish. Warm without bulk - I could wear a small but want to be able to layer under it so medium works. Brit blue is a real blue, not purple like bright navy.

Great jacket

This is my first puffer jacket, and I really like the sleekness of it. It's surprisingly warm for how thin it is. I got the blue teal matte, and the color is lovely. My only complaint is that it could be a bit slimmer in the waist area.

Red color is more brown

I know screens can alter colors, but I tried to mitigate the color issue by searching for this jacket across different sites. I had the impression that the red was a deep red, but there is a lot more brown to the color than any of the websites show. It's not very beautiful. I apologize because I thought I took a picture, but now I cannot find it.

I'm 5'6", ~130 pounds, 35" chest, 27-28" waist (depending on the time of day :P), 39" hips. The medium was a little big but would have allowed me to wear thicker things underneath. The small was a better fit everywhere but, like most jackets, was more snug in the hips. I returned both, partly because of the color, partly because of the fit. I would love someone to design a jacket that is slender in the waist and ample in the hip. I haven't found it yet. Had I kept one, would have gone with the small because I would not have used this as a big outer coat. I would have used it as a puffer-sweater, and was looking for something more trim. (I have a NF in medium for a bigger puffer that I do use as an outer coat in below freezing weather.)

    Versatile warmth!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

An instant classic from North Face. This thing is awesome, super lightweight but still surprisingly warm. Really great go to jacket for pretty every day from fall to spring. Nice feminine fit looks great and not at all boxy. Fits true size. DWR coating is great for helping to shed light moisture on those drizzly or snowy days but is not waterproof.

This is exactly what I wanted - a lightweight, well-fitting jacket. It is not meant for serious cold, but is perfect for those somewhat cold days. I have used it non-stop since it arrived. I love it.
