The 3L laminate creates the waterproofing while also remaining breathable so that you can continue pushing towards the summit. On your way to the top you can quickly pull them off and put them back on without removing your mountaineering or ski boots thanks to the 11in side-zips on each ankle. Finally the large bellowed zipper pocket on the thigh will happily hold your important items nearby so that you can keep your hands free.
