Summit L3 Ventrix 2.0 Hooded Jacket

Whether your adventure is on skis or crampons, aerobic activities in winter need the Summit L3 Ventrix 2.0 Hooded Jacket from The North Face. It's insulated with Ventrix, a synthetic material that is designed to stretch so it retains warmth without restricting movement. Its construction uses micro-vents that open and close as you move to promote airflow without losing heat—balancing warmth and breathability. Underarm gussets and seamless shoulders keep your arms moving freely whether you're carrying a pack or not, while the stretchy cuffs and adjustable hem keep the jacket in place as you move. The adjustable, helmet-compatible hood extends the protection to your head and neck, keeping you warm without blocking your view.

  • Midlayer for high-output winter adventures
  • Ventrix insulation traps heat and moves with you
  • Abrasion-resistant fabric withstands repetitive motion
  • Underarm gussets encourage freedom of motion
  • Seam-free shoulders are comfortable under pack straps
  • Stretchy cuffs and adjustable hem seal out drafts
  • Adjustable hood is helmet-compatible

Amazing, multi-use jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

This is easily one of my favorite pieces of gear, ever. I had been intrigued by the new class of breathable jackets for a few years for ski touring and cold weather hiking and other activities and took the dive last winter after getting back into Nordic skiing, I tried on the nano-air and didn't like the fit and also seemed like it wouldn't be very durable as I am rough on gear. I saw this in a comparison and really liked the durability of the face on this summit series model. I've used this 3-4 times a week last winter and the last few months, skiing, touring, skate skiing, fat biking hiking, and it is simply amazing. It is WAY warmer than it seems, in fact I don't really wear it above 40 degrees, let alone above freezing. It's not super warm just standing around in really cold weather, as expected, but matches your activity really well - so if you move, it keeps the heat but doesn't overheat. It really does breath well, even skate skiing, and remains comfortable in stop and go conditions with no sign of sweat. For skate skiing and hiking I use it as an outer layer and for touring and inbounds under a shell it's usually the only insulating layer I wear over a wool baselayer. For high output activities in simply excels, but even skiing at the resort it's one of the most ideal mid layers under a shell and is great for spring skiing as well. I sweat a lot, even though I'm in good shape, and live in Montana, where it actually gets cold, and this jacket solves that for me. I've taken some spills and bushwacked and the jacket shows no signs of use. The fit is great and the pockets are well placed and useful. It does not have much wind resistance, it does shed snowfall pretty well, and I haven't used it in a true rain. And somehow after all the sweat, it has no odor.

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure the hip circumference at the fullest part of the seat, keeping the tape horizontal around the body.
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
Sleeve Length:
Measure the distance from the prominent bone at center back neck, across the shoulder, over the bent elbow to the center of the wrist bone.
