Don't let storm clouds get you down.

There's a certain hopeless feeling when you're 12 miles into a hike and the wind picks up around you with dark and ominous clouds looming over the treetops. Don't let yourself get caught without a layer to protect you from the elements on fall and spring days that tease you with good weather, only to break loose a mid-day storm. Throw on The North Face Apex Risor Hooded Softshell jacket for light weight protection from the elements. With DWR treated windproof WindWall fabric, you know you can trust it to keep the wind and water out in the critical moments when a good layer can mean the difference between reaching your destination or bee-lining it for the car. The soft, brushed lining provides some warmth, but it lacks heavy duty insulation so you don't have to worry about overheating while you're out.

  • Windproof shell for when the weather turns sour
  • Soft lining keeps you warm without overheating
  • DWR treated to repel water and keep you dry
  • Two hand and one chest pocket keep necessities close
  • Regular fit for room to move or layer underneath

Great mid weight jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I’ve worn this jacket in 40-60 degree weather with wind and rain and can’t complain. The wind wall technology works wonderfully and the jacket has kept me dry in moderate rain. I am 6’7” and the jacket fits me in the sleeves and the torso so if anything I would say it runs a little big.

Thanks for the review David! Stoked to hear you're loving the jacket.

The Best!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Small

I love this jacket!! It's feels like a really sturdy jacket. It stretches and it's so soft and warm!! It doesn't have that stiff feeling like other shells do. It's not heavy either. I haven't worn it in the rain but I'm sure it will be excellent with keeping me dry. I got a men's small and I'm a woman 5'2, 140lbs and it fits fine. I think it's a slim fit even though it had standard fit on the tag so yall men just keep that in mind. I couldn't find one in the women's with the windwall, DWR and hood I liked. The sleeves are a little long and the overall length of the jacket is a longer than I would like, but It will be ok. The only complaint I do have is the chemical smell it had but that can be taken care of with a washing. Oh and SUPER FAST shipping. I received it the next day!! That's just crazy fast. And the best prices. Thank you backcountry!!!!
