Suunto Ambit3 Vertical Watch

Know your route.

Sleep deprivation, altitude, and exhaustion can mess with your mental bearings and leave you wondering exactly where the hell you are, but Suunto's Ambit3 Vertical Watch will help you pin down your location, your destination, and the path between the two. Featuring GPS navigation, FusedAlti altitude profiles, and visual route tracking, the Ambit3 will take the guess work out of your next vertical endeavor and leave you confident in your pace, route, and progress.

Suunto gave the Ambit3 virtually every feature you could want or need whether you're ultra running, trekking, cycling, or competing in a triathlon. The watch has an impressive 15-hour battery life with five-second GPS accuracy updates, but can be dialed back to one minute accuracy readings to extend the battery life up to 100 hours. To keep you oriented, the Ambit3 comes with an integrated compass, GPS navigation, and an altimeter. It's also compatible with Apple and Android smartphones, and it's functionality can be expanded with Suunto's Movescount app and other Suunto fitness/tracking apps, so you can plan routes with a topographic map, see your altitude profile, and share your adventure with the Movescount app.

Perfect for all of your outdoor sports

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This watch came highly recommended from the local ultramarathon runners here locally in the Wasatch. So far I am impressed with how accurate the tracking is when I take it out on a run or backcountry ski tour. Each activity is adjustable so you can display everything you want and nothing that you don’t. The battery life is one of the main reasons I went with the Ambit 3. I don’t have to worry about charging this watch all the time like I have had to with previous watches.

Almost unusable due to watch synch issue

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Watch seems fine... but synching to phone and PC started as unreliable and now, after a few weeks, phone cannot ever sync to the watch while watch settings can't be synched from the PC. No response from Suunto so far.

I'm debating between the Suunto Ambit 3 Peak and Amit 3 Vertical. I like the Vertical because it has a thinner profile and I have a smaller wrist. I have read on the Suunto website review section that the GPS tracker may not be very accurate. Is this true? How does the GPS compare with the Ambit 3 Peak?

Thanks!

Hey Prithvi! Got your email. I'll get back to you shortly!

Best Ambit Yet

I am a long time Suunto user. I have had several models over the years from the Core, the T6, a first generation Ambit and most recently the Ambit3 Peak. I am very familiar with the Suunto operations and won't go into that much here. I have now been using the Ambit3 Vertical everyday for about 2 months. I run ultra marathons and train 15-25 hours a week. I use the watch to log every training session. This includes running, skiing, skimo, biking, swimming and strength training. I often train with the heart rate monitor. I am blown away with the improvements in this watch over the previous Ambit's I have had.

Design: The biggest update is the removal of the gps antenna
