Why We Built The Double Cloud Camp Bed

The Cloud Camp Bed is Stoic's comfiest sleeping pad, so we followed the same recipe and sized it up for two campers. It uses plenty of foam to offer all the cushioning you need to sleep soundly. Its soft, stretchy fabric has a TPU coating to protect from wet weather should you sleep outside the tent, and the bottom is reinforced to stay solid on rocky grounds.

  • Sleeping pad with cloud-like cushioning for two campers
  • Foam padding offers outstanding sleeping comfort
  • Soft, stretchy fabric treated with TPU for water-resistance
  • Bottom reinforcement withstands rough, abrasive surfaces
  • Stuff sack included for compact storage

Buy it Nice or Buy it Twice

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Double Cloud

Bought the Stoic for the mattress for a rooftop tent. Outside fabric got caught on an edge in the tent, and tore before the first trip. Patched the tear with wader repair cement, and seemed to fix it after a thorough leak test. A month into a trip to Montana, the valves leaked slowly throughout the night on the pad. Bit the bullet and ordered the Xped Megamat, haven't had any problems with the Exped since. I left the Stoic behind in Montana. If you're wondering why the Stoic is so much less expensive, than the Exped, there's a reason.

Big, Bulky, and oh so comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: double

I bought this in March and have used it a whole lot since. Originally I got it to use for a comfortable camping experience for me and my son in our Four Person Tent. Since then I found it so comfortable that I use it every night at home.

I supplement comfort with a full size fitted waterproof quilted cover, and a fitted sheet over that. The mattress will inflate itself, just give it time. I occasionally add 3-4 puffs of air for firmness, but I have found that it's easy to make it too firm, for my comfort. Since the foam doesn't appear to be cored(solid) the surface is smooth and offers a lot of support. With at home use I add about 2 puffs of air every week or two, which isn't bad compared to most inflatables.

If you have the room for this thing packed and unpacked, it's a no brainer comfort deluxe ultra super duper sleeping tool.

So comfortable!

I love this pad! I’ve used it for 2 camping trips so far and had the best night sleep both times. It keeps you really warm!

Valves & Inflating Info

Some people seem to be confused about how the valves and inflating work. I found it pretty straightforward, but took me a couple minutes the first time I used it!

There are two valves on the pad, one on each side. They are identical, and they rotate from the inflate side to the deflate side. (see photo)

Lay the pad out flat where you want it, open up BOTH caps and rotate the valves to "inflate" (it has the little orange thing sticking out & says inflate behind the white plastic)

Leave the pad to self inflate for ~15 min or so. In my experience, it won't get 100% filled on it's own, so after you've left it for a bit, go ahead and blow into each valve to get the pad to your desired firmness. I've found you actually want it to be a little less than full, as the foam does a great job holding you up.

Once the pad is at your desired firmness, leave the valves in the inflate position and close the caps! In the inflate position, air shouldn't escape. When you're ready to deflate and put away, simply rotate the valves to the deflate position, fold the pad a few times to get some air out, then roll it up, secure with the included velcro straps, and put it in the storage sack! I found it pretty easy to get it the correct size to fit in the bag, and I probably could have made it even smaller if I needed to.

Jake - this is great! Thank you so much for your thorough walk through. Taking this bad boy out this weekend for the first time and am so stoked.

    So far so good

Haven’t had issues yet with this pad. It’s gotten a decent amount of use with guests at home, and is our deluxe camp pad. We’ve had it out 4 or 5 nights straight with guests and no issues. It packs huge so we only take this out car camping when we’re not out on group trips and can afford to have this take up about half of the space in our cargo box. We have a small SUV and this would probably take up about half of the trunk space too, but I’d rather sleep on this than an air pad while car camping. Got this on a Black Friday deal and it came in just over 50% cheaper than a Megamat, so as much as I’d love for this to pack down smaller, I love a great deal even more. That’s probably the biggest issue I see so far. Otherwise it’s pretty comfortable. Top it off with a little air using my mini air pump and it’s good to go. I’m a side sleeper and I don’t feel the ground on this at all. Definitely get the best sleep with this pad.

    leaks, bad design

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

valves are an extremply poor design and cheap, outer caps should have a rubber o ring to prevent extra air from escaping as well, unfortunatly like other reviews mine also deflated after a few nights of use. I tried to repair the valvesbut with no luck but am fairly certain its the valves

Comfy but huge! Stoic vs. Exped Mega 10

I bought both Stoic and Mega Mat 10 and tested side by side in my living room. FYI I'm a casual car camper (mostly music festivals and campgrounds) but I did product testing at a design firm for a few years so I know what to look for in terms of quality construction and features ;-) I'd say the Stoic is about 3-5% more comfortable that Mega mat 10. Subtle but noticeable. Main down side is the the Stoic size...way more bulky! Worth it for the price difference and if you have the storage space. I plan to use mine as a guest bed so it's worth it to make room for it in my closet. Make sure you have a safe, dry, climate controlled space to store this thing...I imagine keeping it in a garage or basement would void the warranty. Most websites/forums say you should store these types of mats unrolled and inflated...who has space for this?!? Under bed only works if you don't have a cat. Just something to consider!

      Leaks after 5 nights

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

The first trip (5 nights) it lived up to the other reviews. It was the best nights sleep I’ve ever had camping. I brought it back out a couple weeks later and it goes flat halfway through the night. It’s been used in a tent with heavy rubber floor and a camper, not exactly extreme use. WAY too expensive to crap out so soon. I’ve had better luck with the cheap air mattresses from Walmart. Reached out to steep and cheap a week ago, still no response. Save your money.

Hopefully they get back to you soon! I just purchased and am planning on using it for five nights coming up....

I'm a bit confused regarding the valves. I hope I have it figured out before I go camping. No owners manual included and can't find a downloadable one either.

I’m not sure how to inflate it either! Hopefully we’ll find out soon

      Luxury Comfort

I'll start off by saying this thing is pretty big, but that is to be expected with this comfortable of a camping pad. After purchasing the Stoic Groundwork Double Sleeping Bag, I needed to find a double pad that would work. I must say that they pair together beautifully and my car camping set up is beyond dialed. If you want at-home comfort anywhere you go, this pad is the way to go!

I'd also highly recommend checking out the Groundwork Double Sleeping Bag if you are in the market for a double bag:

When you say car camping, do you mean you sleep in your car? If so, do you think this would fit in a Subaru Outback with the back seats folded down? TIA

        Amazing Rooftop Tent Upgrade

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: True to size

I originally planned on getting a nearly identical (except for color and brand) pad at double the price for my rooftop tent, but after seeing the positive reviews and great deal on the Stoic Double Cloud I had to give it a shot. After inflating to the perfect level, I found it even more comfortable than my latex or memory foam mattresses. The 4 inch thickness is just enough to keep me from feeling the ground in any position while the stretchy top material, foam, and air pressure provide the perfect support and contouring. It also seems pretty durable so I'm not concerned about my husky poking a hole in it with her nails.

Just unboxed this. Seems like it will be warm and comfy. Plenty big for my 6'1" frame plus another person of similar size. The cheapo mini USB pump I got online works ok with it, using the rubber part inside the valve. One inflation valve and one deflation valve, both with one way valves. I am concerned that the material right around the valve will wear more quickly, but time will tell, and I'll baby that part. The bottom material is a little more durable. Don't think slipping off will be an issue. The stuff sack included is big enough! But I wish it were a bit thicker to protect from punctures during loading and travel. Overall, a good buy so far.

I'm confused. Just received ours today. Our valves looks different and their were no instructions for dummies included. Did you say that 1 valve is for inflation and one valve is for deflation? 😂 Help

        Comfort at its finest!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Easy to set up and pack down. It was like sleeping on my mattress at home and I'm a side sleeper.

        so far so good

Haven't really put this to the test yet, but inflated in the living room. The car camping game was just improved by a huge margin. Material feels durable so I'm feeling confident going out on the rocks in southern Utah later this winter or early spring. Once tested in the field,I will update my review, but I am not anticipating any issues with this.

          Car Camping Upgrade

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times
          • Fit: True to size

I've been dreaming of adding a double bag and pad to my car camping setup since we had a kid two years ago and this Stoic setup was the perfect addition to our family camp kit. I coupled this with Stoic's double sleeping bag, and it's basically an airbed, it's so dang comfortable. Like mentioned in another review--it's BIG so it does take up a lot of space in the car / roofbox while driving, but that is a worthy tradeoff in my mind for a good night sleep car camping. It lasts for multiple nights of camping, it the perfect size for two adults, plus a toddler when she wants to get out of her pack n play in the middle of the night and party, and even a dog.

Finally found the perfect camping pad!

When I saw Stoic release the double cloud camp bed I was instantly interested. I had been looking for a mattress for two that wasn't going to deflate after one use. This mattress is so easy to use with amazing comfort. The foam core provides plenty of support with similar comfort levels as my memory foam mattress.
Special thanks to my Gearhead Laurel for taking such good care of me.
