    PG-1170 Cassette

The SRAM PG-1170 Cassette provides smooth shifting across 11 gears with its semi-spidered steel cogs. Ideally pairing with SRAM's Force 22 groupset, the PG-1170 cassette features a 16T cog for extra cadence control and delightfully smooth shifting when you're hovering around the middle block of the cassette. X-Glide shifting technology eliminates flex between the teeth to enhance shifting smoothness, especially on downshifts. Note that SRAM recommends pairing this cassette with its PC-1170 chain for flawless shifting. Moreover, it's only compatible with 11-speed hub/freehub bodies, and it includes an anodized, laser-etched aluminum lockring.

    SRAM + Backcountry = RAD!!!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11-36

I know the other guys make good cassettes (and great fishing poles too!?!), but I’m a SRAM guy, and always will be! The PG-1170 11-36 is the perfect pie-plate for the long steep climbs around my house, and getting it quick from Backcountry at a good price is all a middle aged man in lycra can ask for.

Amateur Tip: This 11-36 cassette paired with a Wolftooth Roadlink may not impress the mechanics at your LBS, but they will pair up just fine with pretty much any setup you’ve got to give you the mechanical advantage you need to make your local suckfest climb suck just a little bit less.

    my go to cassett

this is a good cassette especially for the price. I mostly use it for my training wheelsets. i generally I get a couple thousand miles out of each one.

Trying this before a new gravel crank

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

With a 50/34 crank and 11-34 rear, I wanted just a bit more bottom on my 105 group gravel bike, and shimanos 11-34 cassette tooth count increments never felt right to me. The 11-36 SRAM cassette is much cheaper option to start with over converting to grx 48/31 cranks - contrary to what Shimano says, the SRAM 11-36 plays nicely with a 105 (7000) long cage RD, just a small B adjustment and it shifts perfectly through all gears. Just a quick pavement ride so far, but seems to be exactly what I was looking for.
Update- after a 50 mile backwoods gravel ride with plenty of steep climbs this performs perfectly and has the extra low I needed to keep a reasonable cadence up the ridiculously steep climbs, and the gear spacing across the cassette feels great. With this I won’t need to swap out the sub compact road crank and spend money on a “gravel specific” crank. For others in my situation this is an excellent option to try.

Wrong cassette (10 speed) sent 3 times

Received cassette in 1170 box with 11-32 "x" but the actual cassette was a 10-speed. Luckily, customer service was great with returning and sending new ones, however after 3 I told them to just refund. Wish I had some compensation for driving (hour total) to UPS store to return 3 items.

Seems more a SRAM problem than CC problem, to be fair.

The 11th cog is attached to the back of the cassette for shipping. You have to take it off the back and put it onto the front of the cassette.`

      I love it

I just built up a Surly Midnight Special with this cassette and have put some long rough miles on it . From paved roads to double and single track trails and some off road neglected trails and no complaints it has gotten me where I have been going , trouble Free! What more can you ask for :)

      Good all round cassette

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Where I live there are some hills nowhere like in the mountain stages of the tours. This 11-32 SRAM cassette is a perfect match with the Force 1 GXP 52 crank for me, where I ride and my style it suits me fine. With 11 gears more then enough for the hills and speed on the flats. Great price.

      Light and Friendly Price

Great cassette, durable, and much better price than a Red cassette. Lasts a decent time for road riding.

        quality casette 11-25

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this for my road bike; This is the 1170, Sram force. Excellent quality as it is usual for SRAM. Way cheaper than the RED 22 casette (dont see the point of spending over $250 in a casette). 11-25 with standard rings is enough for the flats

        A good cassette.

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this for a bigger range for climbing, it is doing the trick. It has been quiet and shifted admirably.

        worth it

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This cassette performs just how it should. I can make my chain slip on a PG-1150 cassette if I try hard enough, but I cannot do that with the PG-1170 using the same chain.

        Gravel Cassette

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Dependable, smooth shifting, quiet. The usual "no issues" with SRAM components. Solid cassette at a great price and it survived the Almanzo in the rain.

        Love it!

When paired with the the cx1 group set you will be an unstoppable force when on the CX course or on a gravel grinding adventure. The 36 tooth granny is perfect to get up and over the steepest climbs.
