Total Comfort Bib Short

The Sportful Total Comfort Men's Bib Shorts have a big name to live up to, and they don't disappoint. With a variable density chamois that provides ample cushion, you're unlikely to find yourself in discomfort, even on the longest rides. And the compressive fabrics further enhance comfort by reducing the risk of muscle vibration and road chatter causing premature fatigue. The majority of the shorts are comprised of the mid-weight 220g Lycra, which acts as a compressive layer. Flatlock stitching minimizes the chances of chafing at the seams. The materials used throughout these bibs are breathable and wicking so it pulls moisture away from your skin, keeping you cool and dry.

For the insert, Sportful chose its Total Comfort chamois, which is aptly named. It has three densities of foam, placing the firmest underneath the typical hotspots areas helping to evenly distribute pressure. This insert is up to 18mm thick in certain areas, which minimizes sit bone pressure without excessive bulk elsewhere.

Strap with little stretch = fail point

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have several road suits from Sportful and many bib shorts from their sister company Castelli, so I know how their sizing runs (5'11" 160lbs 31" waist and I order Larges.). Pad is great, the fabric feels premium and has good compression. However, the straps have very little stretch. The seam began to tear the first time I put it on. At my height, they feel good when in the riding position, but are very taut when standing up right, After that first ride, I have used utmost care when putting them on, but now on the third wear, I tore the strap. Maybe if you have a short torso, this will be a good buy, I received a second pair as a gift for Christmas which remain unworn. I hope Competitive Cyclist will let me exchange them.

Straps Are Hilariously Manufactured

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Bought these in a size XL (I’m 6’ and 185lbs). Decided to ignore the other reviews about how small these bib shirts ran. As I tried them on, the shorts themselves fit ok, but as I tried to pull the straps up, they stopped stretching around mid chest. I was able to wrangle myself into the hilariously short straps while hunched over. The second I stood up, one of the straps snapped off of the shorts at the seam. This might be the worst design oversight on a product I’ve come across. Not sure why backcountry continues to sell these after the multiple reviews on the poor design?

Great for all day cycling

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I'm 5'11" 180 lb. I wear a large in these bibs. I have 7 pair. Have been using these bibs for 6 years. These work great for me. I like a firm fit & do not like the pad to shift while l'm riding. I want strong compression on my quads & hamstrings. These bibs provide that for me. The thicker pad is a must for where broke my pelvic bone. These bibs have kept me cycling longer distance since that accident. I just bought another pair.

Waaaay too small!

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Ordered a large which is what i usually wear. Way too small. Could barely get the straps over my shoulders. Returned and got an extra large. They didn't seem much bigger as I still could barely get the straps over my shoulders. Don't waste your time unless you plan on getting them two sizes bigger than you normally wear.

Disappointed in 2nd pair

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I ordered these bib shorts about six months ago and what I got was a great pair of bib shorts. Very comfortable and fit very well in Medium size. So I ordered another pair, and this new pair is way smaller than the first pair. I would say it's more like a size Small or XS. It's consistently smaller across all dimensions -- the waist, the leg length, and the straps. So I compared them closely and the first pair says it's made in Italy and the new pair says made in Moldova. The Moldova pair seems not only smaller but also somewhat lower quality. It's very disappointing and I would order more if I knew they'd be Italian made. So 5 stars on first pair and 1 on second averages 3.

Came damaged and low quality

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I bought this item at the recommendation of a gearhead specialist for 3-5 hour rides. I had read the reviews about it running small, so I ordered a 3XL (I am 6'5'' and 210 lbs). I received a damaged item that had clearly been worn and returned: one of the straps was completely torn off and the other looked like it had started tearing. I was fairly disappointed with the CC quality control needless to say, and it appears that the bibs are not at all very sturdy anyway. The chamois did appear pretty comfortable and well padded though. I will say this is the second pair of pricier bibs (the other one being a Giordana) that have been rather flimsy. At least the Giordana made it through a full summer of riding before the fabric started thinning out and tearing. I have low-end Pearl Izumis that are going strong after 2+ years (in spite of padding being pretty compressed at this point).
