Minimalist weather protection.
If you’re looking for the lightest, most compact wind protection around, the Sportful Hot Pack Ultralight Men’s Vest is it. It packs so small that Sportful claims it only takes up one third of a jersey pocket. But despite the incredibly packability, this vest is still fully windproof, highly water resistant, and ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice.
Sportful built the Hot Pack Ultralight out of an astoundingly light fabric. In fact, it feels incredibly delicate in your hands, despite the fact that it’s fully windproof. Despite the delicate hand, it’s plenty durable for the intended task—meaning that it’s not exactly bombproof, but it’s robust enough for regular use. With packability being paramount, it’s not surprising that the small back pocket doubles as a stuff-sack. Sportful minimized the seams at the front of the vest, reducing the number of points of entry for water, should you decide to test the limits of its waterproofness.
A drop tail keeps your backside covered in the event that road spray starts kicking up. Mesh panels at the underarms help to vent excess heat when you’re working hard. The elastic arm openings help to minimize the gap between jersey and vest, which minimizes flapping, and maximizes protection. And reflective accents make you more visible to drivers, so you stay safer on the roads, especially if dusk sneaks up on you.
The Sportful Hot Pack Ultralight Men’s Vest is available in seven sizes, from X-Small, to 3X-Large, and in the color Light Gray.
- Q & A
Runs Small, make sure you size correctly
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: @XL
I usually step up one size for cycling gear but it wasn't enough for this vest. I following the sizing guidelines but it just fit tight across my torso and I wasn't able to wear this over anything more than a baselayer. It could just be me but I think it is on the small size of the sizing spectrum. The product seemed well made and as described except it is headed back to the warehouse.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size

This was just what I was looking for. I ride in a desert climate and the mornings can start out quite cool and heat up in a hurry. The weather at the top of our usual climbs can be windy and cool as well, so I needed something that wasn't bulky riding around with it in my back pocket making me hot, but could actually provide wind resistance in 45-60 degree morning starts and climbs. This has worked out perfectly for my needs. It is snug, but I wouldn't say that it runs small.
Very light weight and good protection
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Almost too light... Wow. Works well and have descended many cool Alpine passes with it. Great "race" like fit. If the temps are low say 40's and or wet this may not be enough even with arm warmers.
