Smith Pivlock Arena ChromaPop Sunglasses

Blast off.

Remember the last crazy science film you saw in large-format at the museum? Well, that's kind of what your bike ride or run looks like while wearing the Smith Pivlock Arena ChromaPop Sunglasses. Well, maybe fewer nebulas and stars and stuff, but the enhanced colors and crazy clarity of Smith's legendary ChromaPop will certainly make you feel like you've gone intergalactic. With an enormous, wide field of view and bridgeless wraparound design, these water-, oil-, and dirt-resistant lenses fit nearly every face comfortably. Light, strong TR-90 frames feature adjustable nose pads and slide-on temple tips made from a hydrophilic material that holds on tighter the sweatier your face gets. Changing lenses is hyperspeed quick with the Pivlock interchange system, so you'll always have the right protection for your eyes no matter what the light's like in your current solar system.

2nd pair

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Have two different colors of these glasses and love them! Fit is great with my Smith and Giro helmets. I feel as though I have a standard size head and these feel great. The 3rd time I swapped out the lenses on my first pair, I did chip the attachment hook on the temple. The glasses still work though. I did learn my lesson to be extra careful when I swap my lenses. As long as I am mindful when swapping the lenses there are no problems. The Chromapop is the real deal. Really makes the Utah fall colors pop! These came with two lenses- the one pictured and a rose colored lens.

Had to Return

I am still giving these glasses three stars, because I think the quality is good and the design is great. However, my face is small and I get VERY sweaty. I didn't have a problem with them slipping down my nose but up. As I progressed through my run the glasses would slide up my nose and push against my face. My eyelashes would then rub on the lens which is very annoying. I think they may have just been too big for me.

Great looking, could have gone bigger

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

My husband bought these and has this to say: I needed some full coverage glasses for biking, had heard great things about these so I pulled the trigger. The look great which is nice and they come with a low light lense which is also awesome. Changing the lenses is a little terrifying and I have chipped the lenses while doing this already. I am scared that too much changing will break the lenses. Also, I could have gone bigger, maybe the arena max. While wearing the glasses I can look below the lenses if I look down. All other vision fields are covered. This is my fault and I should have gone to a store and tried them on first. No fogging issues unless I stop biking, image clarity is exceptional. Very solid on my face, do not slip at all. All in all I am very happy with them, but not sure I am going to be switching the lenses much.

    Comfort and Performance

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These glasses are great! I just switched over to Smith after using Oakley's for years. I have to say I actually prefer the Smiths!

I have a pretty narrow face and these fit great! The ChromaPop lenses actually work. They help keep the lighting consistent while you are dodging in and out of wooded areas while mountain biking. Not only do they perform well but they are super comfortable and lightweight.

My only complaint is that the PivLock system is pretty fragile. Everytime I swap out lenses I feel as if I'm going to break them. The temple of the glasses lock into two small holes on the lens.

Overall, I would recommend these glasses to anyone!

    Great Riding Glasses

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

My girlfriend had originally purchased the Pivlock Asana but didn't like the smaller fit. She has a pretty average size head but she likes the larger lens on the Arena much more. These fit well with her Poc Tectal helmet and the included clear lens is definitely a plus.

    Chromapop Actually works

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

After hearing the bold claims made by Smith about Chromapop lenses actually being able to enhance your vision I was skeptical, however, after having ridden with them I am shocked at how well they actually work. Even while using the full sun lenses in the woods I still had great trail definition and could see all of the little roots and rocks. The fit on these glasses can be the one drawback I have experienced; the large lens which allow for great unobstructed vision can interfere with some helmets and does not give you the most comfortable fit.

    How many lens are included?

    Nice glasses but...

I picked these up for a great price and they did the job well. Great visibility in the drops which is one of the main things I was looking for. Multiple lenses were a big plus. Problem is the Piv-Lock mechanism is dependent on small holes in the upper corners of each lens. That small piece is subject to fracture. The first pair I had broke while I was at the half way point in a century and then became luggage. I don't believe I had ever changed the lens. I returned those for another pair. In taking a picture for this review, I just noticed that this lens has a fracture in is as well and I believe I only used it one time last season. This set is going back too. It's a shame. Otherwise great glasses.
