Why We Like The Forefront 2 MIPS Helmet
Mountain biking protective gear is constantly being re-engineered to be lighter, stronger, and sleeker, seeing demanding trail and all-mountain riders want more comfortable helmets without sacrificing good looks. Following this evolution in design, the Smith Forefront 2 MIPS Helmet builds on the success of the original with increased aerodynamics, heightened protection, and airy-cool ventilation in a sleek, attractive lid for trail and all-mountain disciplines.
Smith's proprietary Aerocore In-Mold construction pairs traditional EPS foam with Koroyd tubular structures for better ventilation and a lighter overall weight, but without sacrificing impact dispersion and structural integrity. For the Forefront 2 Helmet, Smith fully encompasses the backside of the helmet with Koroyd structures for an even lighter, more airy feel than before. 20 optimized vents work with Koroyd tubular structures, allowing built-up heat to readily escape in all directions, so you're not susceptible to overheating and excessive sweating.

Used it today for first
Used it today for first time. Very comfortable and cool at 30 degrees Celsius. My only issue was on a bumpy descent it kept bouncing and knocked my sunglasses off. The Mips part fits perfectly. Wondering if the outdoor helmet part is the wrong size.

Comfortable and light
I like this helmet for its comfort and full round protection and it is very light. The dial at the back snugs the fit so it doesn’t shift while riding. The back of the helmet goes down far so it doesn’t sit like an egg on your head. The only thing I would improve on is the length of the visor, although most visors seem to be similar. I jimmy-rigged another larger visor over the top because my eyes are very sun sensitive.

Love this helmet. Became my all-time favorite after only a couple of rides. Comfortable, cool feelin' and cool lookin'. Best of all, it helps keep the ol' noggin intact!

Unhappy
Ordered this helmet according to their sizing chart, helmet is too small… Smith will not offer an exchange or anything. Their solution is that I just buy another helmet… I will never do business with this company again. It’s easy to take someone’s money, but it’s not so easy apparently to take care of their customer.

The perfect helmet for bike polo
I bought this helmet for my husband and partner in our bike shop. When he turned 50 he decided to start riding track AND started playing bike polo (Don't know what it is? Youtube "Hardcourt bike polo". You're in a for a treat). I wanted a helmet that would give him maximum protection. With the MIPS and the Koroyd tubing, this is perfect. I discovered the technology and the helmet when I was doing research for a blog on concussion and protecting your head. If the fighter pilots are good with this tech, so are we. Excellent helmet. (And, we were pleasantly surprised by the colour. The orange wasn't as bright as we thought it would be.)

Sunburn
Fantastic helmet, comfortable and great venting. My only complaint is the opening at the very top that gave the very top of my head a 1.5 inch square of sunburn. This opening could have had a mesh cover or been made on an angle to prevent this. I would have rated it 5 stars if it weren’t for this little problem.

First Class protection.
First Smith for me, but not the last. I've been wearing a size M Bontrager (350g), and my main gripe is the visor didn't extend far enough to shield my face against the Florida sun. The Forefront 2 size L (400g) definitely has the better visor, and it solidly locks into 3 different positions. The Smith is a much cooler helmet, with substantial air flow even at lower speeds. At this price point, I was expecting a magnetic latch. It's equiped with the old faithful snap-in type latch, which is plenty sturdy. The helmet extends farther down the neck in back, which is a plus, as far as I'm concerned. The ratchet wheel works great and holds securly. When I first put it on, it felt a bit heavy. Once underway, the 50g extra weight wasn't noticeable. After 15 minutes, I didn't even think about it. MIPS equiped, and has a camera mounting location. I found the Ionic+ lining was a little rough textured and 'scratchy' on my shaved head, so I wear a sweat wicking bike cap under it. That's my preference anyway, so it's not really a negative. EN 1078 certified. It's a solid helmet, and I'm looking at other styles of Smith, to add to my selection.

Concussion helmet
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Wasn't thrilled with how this helmet handled a hard crash that ended up with me in the ER with a severe concussion. The black honeycomb inside didn't compress, it instead cracked. After doing my research, this helmet is very poorly rated on a crash test done by Virginia Tech (look it up).
