Cool Sunnies

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Awesome set of shades for the price. The lenses are fantastic in sunny conditions and pretty darn good in lower light/over water. The frame is styled a little thicker around the lenses, hard to tell from product photo so worth mentioning. If you want a stylish and functional pair of shades without breaking the bank these are a great option.

Great Smith Sunglasses

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

High quality pair of shades from Smith for the price point. Love the lens and frame color combinations that the Clark comes in!

basic - what I need

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've owned super nice shades and naturally end up dropping them in a river or sitting on them, so I wanted a good pair that wasn't too expensive. These are great for casual or activities. Moderate price, and the rubber nose pads add good grip for those sweaty days. Overall, the size and shape are pretty neutral and look good on most people.

Great Glasses; Too big

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

Really nice glasses! Smith has excellent build quality and the color I got (red/orange) looks great. However I have a small head and these are large glasses, so they were too big for me. Unfortunately returning :(

Comfortable Day Long

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This is Jes' husband, she got me these sunglasses. First the negative...the plastic/look on them is somewhat thick, the frames I feel are a little bulkier than necessary. Still they aren't heavy at all, but they aren't feather light. But, they are well balanced and don't move at all, and the nose pads are good too. I prefer the Lowdown frames a bit more, and they are about the same size, just the Lowdowns don't have quite as thick of plastic. But I couldn't get the Lowdowns in non-polarized brown lenses. The lenses in the Clarks are great, really clear and brown is perfect for variable brightness days, going in and out of the woods, and increasing contrast. They are better at blue sky bright days than I expected too, although that's not their best use. They are a medium-large coverage I would say, especially with the extra thickness on them. If you have a small or narrow face they may seem a bit wide. Also, the arms lock nicely into the open position and feel good with the hinges.

Fun Colors

I normally prefer Smith polarized shades but sometimes you need a color pop that isn't available in a polarized version. These look sweet and offer good sun protection. Good medium fit without looking too small on my big noggin.

Sweet Shades

Bought these for my Dad. They look awesome, very classic look. Can't go wrong with Smith's! They fit great and he says the lens quality is unlike any pair of sunglasses he has ever worn. They're also a must have on the river.

Good for pro snowboarders, good for me

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I bought these on a whim after seeing Xavier De Le Rue rock these shades in one of his snowboarding films. I kind of figured "if they're good enough for a guy that straightlines icefalls, they're probably gonna be good enough for me."

Saying they're good is an understatement. While these are sort of the bottom of the food chain in terms of the variety of Clark models that Smith offers, meaning it doesn't have polarized or ChromaPop lenses, they handle things extremely well. I've taken these things from the rain of the Pacific Northwest, to sunshine on the San Juans, all the way back home to the snowy Rocky Mountains of Colorado, and everything in between. Hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing, and road-tripping have all been successfully completed with perfect vision thanks to these.

While they're not the lightest sunglasses on the planet, I've found that they are comfortable for long periods of time and don't seem to cause headaches or pressure points like sunglasses of similar weight unless you wear them for like 5 hours at a time. They fit great; big enough to give good coverage, but not too big as to make them look ridiculous. I have a pretty slim face and an oddly-shaped noggin and these fit perfect. I have also lent them out to friends and family and they seem to adapt pretty well to various face sizes. They also have great slip-resistant rubber nose pads. I have never once had these come off my face, even when sweating like a pig.

Speaking of looks, I have had numerous compliments on them. I went with the flecked green tortoise color scheme, hoping that they would not look like camouflage in real life. Much to my satisfaction they do not. Overall these are stylish, functional, and - most importantly- durable shades that provide great visual clarity and can adapt to changing conditions. I love these because they can be worn in town or on the trail without any complaints. Perfect all around shades.

One more plus is that Smith has started to use eco-based plastics in the frames, making them a little bit more environmentally conscious. If you're a granola like me, these will keep you in sound mind and protect your eyes in the meantime.

    Classic square frames

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these as a gift for my boyfriend, and he loves them. He's had plenty of Smith glasses before, and these seem to be the same great quality as the others he's had, especially for the price. They're lightweight but don't feel flimsy, and the slightly rounded edges on the frames make them even more flattering. I had plans of "borrowing" them from time to time, but the size of the frame is a little big for me, so if you have a more petite face you might find these big.

I read a review elsewhere that said the side of the frame on the Black Smoke/Purple Sol-X is actually clear instead of white, as pictured. Can you confirm? Thank you.

yes the frame is a charcoal clear color, I got mine yesterday
