The best for a good reason.

SmartWool's best-selling and warmest baselayer, the Men's NTS Midweight Crew got an upgrade this year with flatlocked seams and redesigned panels that improve comfort and mobility. Soft and smooth Merino wool regulates temperature and is highly breathable to keep you comfortable whether you're touring in the backcountry or taking laps at the resort.

  • A warm baselayer crew that can be worn alone or layered
  • Merino wool keeps you warm and ventilated as you do what you love
  • Flatlock seams prevent chafing
  • Slim fit reduces bulk while layering

I have three of these now. Great shirt!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

A long time ago I stumbled onto merino when I was stinking up synthetic shirts almost instantly. I got a deal on a merino shirt from a Smartwool competitor and liked it a lot. (I still have it and it's 15 years old.) But the prices on that brand skyrocketed and that led me to Smartwool.

While not inexpensive, you do get what you pay for in this case. They're comfortable, long lasting, warm and they fit. I had a retirement job at REI and when there I bought my first two Smartwool shirts and a pair of long underwear bottoms and a ton of socks. The quality of all of it shines and, as I said, it's well worth the money.

I live in the damp, chilly Pacific Northwest. I wear this shirt a lot and I wear Smartwool socks much of the year. Highly recommended!

Love this product!

Soft, lightweight, next-to-body comfort. Super warm and not itchy. I will definitely be buying more smartwool. 6’2” ~190 lbs. Large fits perfect. Haven’t washed yet

    Good clothe!

Good fabric, soft and really keeps you warm, that's what my father said. Excellent for hiking specially in really cold mountains or weather. Fits perfectly and really comfortable to use and very fresh even when there's sweat.

      Nice Piece, TERRIBLE sizing

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: Small

The construction, quality and feel of this shirt is great, no complaints there. But, and this is a huge but for a thermal base layer, the sizing is ridiculous. The size small I bought fits super loose in the arms and stomach. I'm 5'7" 145lbs, normal build and size small almost always fits well. Some brands small is even too small for me occasionally. Is Smartwool using the vanity fat american sizing system? What a bummer...

Wore for 5 straight days while hiking the W in Patagonia and it was worth every penny! It's comfy, warm and resists odors fairly well even after multiple days of heavy use. Would recommend if you have room in your budget.

These were given as a gift but heard they held up well in the frigid Canada conditions. They said they would definitely get another one down the road and that the size was true.

I wear these baselayers around the house about 50% of the time. Super comfortable, they don't get stretched out like some merino baselayers, and they look good. They work great as a next to skin layer while ski touring, hunting, running, hiking, whatever. Great product. Keep it away from the dryer and it should last a long time.

      Warm. Wicks. No Itch.

Amazing layer. Perfect for hiking and backpacking on cool days. Holds up to washing and is the perfect fit and thickness.

      Excellent Midweight Baselayer...and more

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XL

I purchased this Smartwool baselayer 250 to serve as my first line of defense for playing in the snow. I wore this shirt, a down sweater, and a shell for four hours in subfreezing temperatures a month ago and was comfortable the entire time. The material is soft against the skin, retains heat and manages sweat just as well as the synthetic bases I own, but it doesn't take on odor. I like this shirt so much that I've worn it casually on the weekend, in variable temperatures, and never find myself uncomfortable. I can't speak to the long term durability yet, but so far it has held up after about five washings. The fit is athletic, but not tight and the sleeves work for my ape-ish long arms (36" sleeve). I could see where it could be considered tight for guys with a larger midsection.

      Excellent Base Layer

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large

This is a wonderful base layer top with the right balance of warmth and comfort while not being stifling when feeling a bit warmer. As other reviewers have noted, these do a great job of staying dry and not holding an odor.

Only very minor complaint is they are a bit difficult to get pet hair off of.

Overall very happy with my purchase of these.

      Warm and lightweight

It's warm. It's comfy. You can wear it for days and it won't stink. What more do you need to know?

Ive never had the best baselayer before, so picking up these bad boys made a world of difference. They are incredibly soft, very warm, naturally antimicrobial, and dry really quick! I use them mainly as a ski layer, but they also look phenomenal as a long sleeve shirt.

      Nice Baselayer

Comfortable, warm, soft material. Nice fit. Happy with the purchase.
