Great baselayer
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer

I have (2) Smartwool250 base layers. I use them backcountry backpacking. In warmer weather I use one for my evening wear/sleeping. Last year on a cold weather trip I used the second one as a daytime shirt. They keep me warm and don't pick up odors after a week of backcountry wear. Love them.

Perfect as a pajama top to wear around the house and as a second layer over a snug fitting next to skin layer. I typically wear a Patagonia capeline mid-weight base layer under a smart wool 250

Nice shirt
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Weight:

I decided to keep this shirt because I wanted a merino wool base layer in grey that could not only be worn as a base layer, but also worn over a dress shirt like a sweater. This shirt can do both. However, it is not as thick and warm as WoolX's version of this shirt. I would have gone will Woolx, but they don't produce this anymore in grey, only black. 4 stars for a great shirt but also 4 stars because for about the same cost there is a nicer and warmer quality version, albeit in a different color.

Finally Warm

I bought this for my husband to keep him warm. We are in our 70?s and he gets cold just around the house. I?m an all seasons hiker and live by wool but I finally convinced my husband this is the way to go, even at home. He loved it. .soft and warm, not itchy. The close fitting style was fine for his older body although he is used to looser fits. The closer fit is also how it helps hold in the body heat so he is getting the concept. We?ll get more!

Love the base layer, but ..
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Weight:

Website measure of chest suggested a medium which was too large. The exchange for a small worked well - but the back and forth of driving to UPS, trying to find a phone number, confirming that both packages were delivered and finally connecting to chat was cumbersome. As Thoreau wrote: Simplify, Simplify.

Bought 1, such a good layer I bought 2 more. They look nice, feel like solid quality, and are a warm & breathable layer. Med fits nicely (tall lanky guy)

Color nothing like photo

The Tibetan red is nothing like photo. In real life it is a very ugly burgundy. This is the second time backcountry photos are off on anything ?red?. The shirt itself is great, color aside, but had to dock a couple stars because of false representation on the photos. I know web colors are off but this color is nothing like the photo and truly hideous.

I won't repeat what I said in my companion review of the Smartwool bottoms I bought in the same order except to say this is yet another top-notch product. This top does not fit like a second skin, which is how my other Smartwool top fits, but that makes it somewhat more versatile. It definitely fits like it was made for me, but it's not tight and doesn't look like a sausage casing. It's extremely pleasurable to wear. I didn't want to take it off - so I wore it for three days. Inside. Which means it breathes nicely while keeping you warm. The colors are rich and classy. It may just look like a t-shirt on the website, but when you see it and feel it for real, you'll go, "wow," and you'll say it with reverence. I can't wait to take it for a spin next season!

Haven't field tested it yet, but it's very comfortable around the house. Plan to pair it with the 250 bottom base layer for fishing, snowboarding and hiking. Will report back with results.
