Great quality base layer
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I felt compelled to write a review based on all the mixed reviews on this shirt. I didn't find this to be scratchy at all, it's 88% wool/12% Nylon and it felt soft to me. I ordered an XL for just a casual undershirt base layer and the fit was perfect. Just like any review on any product people have their own options on comfort so just order it if you're already looking for a wool base layer and decide for yourself but the quality is top notch as expected from smart wool.

Perfect lightweight t
Love these mostly wool shirts - I avoid Smartwool's blends. For full out efforts I use poly, but for everything else this is my go to.

A little hot and a little scratchy
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This is my first merino shirt. I bought this to wear on hot days because I read that is is superior to synthetics for odor. Unfortunately it?s much warmer than my synthetic shirt and heavier. Also it is definitely not as soft. In fact it?s a little bit scratchy. I have merino sweaters that I have worn without a shirt underneath and they were much softer. This is just an initial impression and I have not yet gone hiking with it.
