Focus on the Scenery.

The alpine lake is sapphire blue, the clouds are cotton-ball white, and the trees are as green as emeralds, but you can’t really enjoy any of it because you’re too hot and sweaty too care. At least, you would be if you hadn’t put on the Smartwool Women’s Long-Sleeve Merino 150 Baselayer Pattern Top before you hit the trail this morning. As things actually stand, you’re as comfortable as you’ve ever been, soaking in the scenery, and feeling pretty psyched about your upcoming dive into the crystal-clear waters in front of you.

  • Baselayer that’ll keep you cool during three-season adventuring
  • Merino wool blend is soft, comfortable, and durable

Adds warmth without bulk

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I was looking for a light weight merino wool base layer that fit like a 2nd skin to wear under other sweaters or tops to add warmth without bulk. This does the job. I saw that another reviewer said her's was transparent. I bought the "Pattern Top in Bordeaux" and it is not at all transparent. Perhaps it's because it is a pattern, although the pattern is so subtle I didn't notice it until I looked for it. Also the Bordeaux is a dark color. Perhaps light colors would be transparent. I would feel fine wearing this on it's own if I was too warm with my top layer. I tried this on under a light weight cashmere sweater and it was very warm. My only wish was that it came in a v-neck so it wouldn't show under my v-neck sweaters, but since I'm wearing it in cold temperatures I'd probably be wearing a scarf over or in the v-neck anyway.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I was so excited to receive this top; however, I was very disappointed when I tried it on. This baselayer is almost completely transparent. I was planning on wearing this baselayer on it's own; however, I will be returning it because of how see thru this material is. Not only do my light colored sports bras show , but you can also practically see my belly button. I am 5'3" and 130lbs and like a looser fit. The medium fit well.

Great base layer!

I love it! I've worn it on 2 hikes in mid 40 degree weather. I stayed warm, but did not get sweaty. I get red itchy skin from regular wool. I had a merino wool base layer that my daughter told me to get at a second hand store. Since then, I've been in love with merino wool. I stay warm, but do not overheat.

Surprisingly warm.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Purchased this for cool weather climbing, haven't actually used it for that yet but I did wear it on a warm ski day, and it's the perfect lightweight base layer. It's soft, offers performance stretch, and keeps me at a comfortable temperature.
