Merino 150 Baselayer Bottom

Summer camping and February skiing offer a set of seriously different challenges, and Smartwool’s Merino 150 Men’s Baselayer Bottom is one of the few pieces of gear in your wardrobe that can handle it all. The 150 series is comprised of Smartwool’s lightest-weight pieces, so you can count on the 150 Bottom to keep you dry when you’re boulder-hopping up to your campsite, and warm enough to keep those early-morning ski tours as comfy as can be.

  • Lightweight bottoms as perfect for summertime camping as for skiing
  • Merino wool regulates temperature, odor, and moisture
  • Smartwool blended merino with nylon fibers to increase durability
  • Smooth flatlock seams make chafing a thing of the past
  • The wide elastic waistband sits comfortably under packs and layers
  • Cut slim to sit against your skin for comfort and efficiency

A very good buy

Wanted a lighter base layer bottom and I found it with this. It is easy on the skin and stays in place. Through the wash and dry cycle they keep their shape. Much, much better than cotton.

    Great Baselayer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium

Was looking for something a little lighter for warmer days or longer spring days in the backcountry and these are exactly what I was looking for. Haven't been cold or too hot. The merino makes them wicking, fast drying and breathable while the nylon makes them stretchy and comfortable!

      Smart Wool Bottoms

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Size Bought: Medium

These bottoms are my first Smart Wool layering purchase. I have only non wool to compare them to. I've used them for casual, everyday layering and on a couple of low impact hikes, both during cold temps, between 10-20 degrees. They've kept me suitably warm and comfortable during any of my uses so far. I don't like the waist band. It rolls down and folds down. Could be how I fit in them. I'm at the top of the fit range for medium size.

In closing, I would say I really like the material but the folding waistband might lead me to consider alternatives the next time around.

      Great Base Layer

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

Smart Wool is one of my favorite brands for base layers. These pants are perfect for touring on cold days or going up to the ski hill. They fit well under snow pants and they help me stay warm. These are the 2nd pair i have owned. I've had my other pair for over 8 years and the seams have started to give.

      terrible waistband

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

these are much worse than the previous version 150 microweight base layer. The biggest issue is the remarkably uncomfortable waistband is very stiff and thick. The previous version was thin and comfortable and flexible and fantastic. I don't know why they changed them. Blending with nylon is something I could deal with but the stiff elastic around the waist is awful.

      How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
      Chest:
Measure under your arms, around fullest part of chest and back circumference.
      Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
      Hip:
Stand with feet together and measure around the fullest part of the hip.
      Arm Length:
With elbow bent slightly, measure from center back of neck, across top of shoulder, to elbow and down to wrist bone.
      Inseam:
Measure along inside leg from crotch to ankle bone. Or using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
