    Bandit Ice Tool

The Singing Rock Bandit Ice Tool is up for almost any type of ascent. Its modular design allows it to adapt to midwinter ice climbs, mixed routes, and technical mountaineering objectives. The hot-forged head is specifically designed to be jammed into cracks while mixed climbing and provides support when utilizing the Bandit as a traditional ice axe during mountaineering missions. It also accepts either an ice or dry pick and adze or hammer for increased versatility. The curved shaft really excels in steeper terrain, but isn't overly aggressive to the point it becomes useless when you're confronted with a more moderate hanging snowfield. Lash a leash through the loop at the handle during technical mountaineering missions or clip a bungee tether to it when you know you'll be on vertical terrain for most of the day—either way, you'll be set with this adaptable ice tool.

    • Adaptable tool for ice, mixed, or technical mountaineering routes
    • Hot-forged head designed to jam into cracks while mixed climbing
    • Chromoly steel pick is interchangeable and features removable weight
    • Curved shaft allows for comfortable climbing in steep terrain
    • Swingweight optimized to plunge into hard ice efficiently
    • Dual-density handle offers a secure, comfortable feel in hand
    • Removable hook rhino and finger protector for a customizable grip
    • Hole on handle accepts carabiner, leash, or bungee tether

    Budget friendly tool

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I haven’t had a chance to use these on ice yet, however my initial review is that these will be great for an all mountain set. I’ve been using a set of quark axes and wanted to try something new without breaking the bank. These are solid and feel well balanced and comfortable. Also I love the bright green color. I got these on a deal and couldn’t be happier. Can’t wait to get them on the ice!!

    An all-mountain steal

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I picked these up on a great deal and have been very satisfied with their performance. I've climbed on them side by side with the Cassin X-All Mountains and BD Vipers, and the Bandits felt pretty comparable. Some of the small details on the competing tools were a little nicer, like slightly more comfortable grips, but I didn't notice much of a difference once I actually got on the ice.

The Bandits probably wouldn't be my first choice for sustained vertical ice or difficult mixed climbing, but for someone climbing mostly lower-angle ice, these are a perfectly capable set of tools. I haven't had the chance to take them out in a true alpine setting yet, but they seem to be better suited to getting you through a wide variety of conditions like you might find on a long climb rather than highly technical hard ice routes.

On a final note, yes, they really are that lime green color, if that matters to you. On the plus side, no one is going to mistakenly grab your tools at the end of the day.
