Solarflex Guide Glove

Built for long days on the oars, the Simms Solarflex Guide Glove features Simm's Solarflex material with a UPF 50 rating, so your hand-skin won't crisp when it's exposed to the sun day in and day out. With a goat leather palm, you'll get plenty of grip even when your gloves get wet, and with an easy pull tab, you can get out of these gloves without having to bust out your hemostats just to get them off.

  • Solarflex stretch fabric
  • Goat leather palm
  • UPF 50
  • Pairing snaps

Must have…

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I row either drift boat or raft nearly 30 days every summer. The thin skin on your hands is getting directly baked all day when on the sticks. Sunscreen washes off, makes your grip poor and screws up knots and your leader and fly line.
These gloves easily lasted me the whole season. The material is very light, but the leather is robust. Grips even better when wet.
Doesn’t get in the way when tying knots. Please wear something. “Old man” hands aren’t cool… chicks dig scars, not liver spots…

love them

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I just picked these up because I wanted a winter glove, but not the bulk of the typical winter glove. Now, I know these are not a winter glove at all, seeing as they have no insulation whatsoever, but I just needed a little bit more protection and coverage on my hands than going bare. These fit that bill, and will be a great addition to my spring/summer kit as well when I can start throwing those big streamers out again.

protection from sun, seem durable...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

had 3-day float trip on the agenda and worried about constant sun exposure--these did the trick without lathering the back of hands with sun screen (and risk contaminating the fly or putting a chemical concoction on the fly line/leader and potentially turning off the fish). My only gripe, and its a small quibble, is that they didn't protect my finger where I wanted to naturally strip the line across. Similarly, when a fish hit and I raised the rod to take up the slack in the line (to get the fish on the reel), that line ripped across the exposed part of my finger too. Both caused a 'line burn' on my ( day job is banging away at a computer keyboard) fingers. By the end of the trip, I sort of 'learned' to adjust handholds/fingers such that the line now went across glove covered skin...felt a little awkward but worked.

Great Fishing Gloves

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I used these for the first time back in mid-May and am still breaking them in! Initially I went with the size Large, but sized down to a Medium (although I usually wear a large glove in everything else). So if you are on the fence, I'd recommend sizing down.

UPF protection, keeps your hands warm in colder water conditions and fit very well. I am still getting accustomed to where the leather pad on the index fingers comes as I feel like I am losing feel of the line (I like have a trigger finger on the rod to hold the line up against it). It could be that I just need to break them in and the leather will soften over time getting only better.

If you are looking for a well made, comfortable UPF fishing glove that you will love - look no further. Simms makes some of the best, if not the best fishing gear and apparel out there - the gloves are definitely no exception!

Hit me up if you have any questions on these or any other fishing gear, apparel etc.
