Frost Gore-Tex Cycling Shoe

If you're looking to extend your riding season through fall, winter, and early spring, solid protection for your feet is critical. While shoe covers may do the trick, they can be cumbersome to deal with and won't offer the same protection as a dedicated winter riding shoe. Whether you're trudging through mud at your local cross race, or racking up mileage on frozen singletrack and gravel roads, the Frost Gore-Tex Cycling Shoe from Sidi keeps your feet warm and dry with the quality and longevity you expect from Sidi shoes.

The uppers are constructed using an eco-friendly, durable Microtech microfiber mesh, backed with a water-resistant and breathable Gore-Tex membrane. The membrane blocks cold winds and precipitation while remaining breathable to let heat and moisture escape during hard riding, preventing you from getting clammy when your body temp rises and perspiration develops during more intense efforts. The ankle has a tall neoprene cuff with a hook-and-loop closure to further improve protection from the elements, while Sidi's effective Tecno-3 closure provides an even tension across the foot with micro-adjustment capabilities and a quick release action.

Being a performance winter shoe for mountain biking, cross, and gravel, Sidi incorporates their MTB competition sole made of stiff nylon with polyurethane inserts. It delivers efficient power transfer, with a tread shape that allows good grip on any surface and proficient mud-shedding capabilities. Further enhancing power transfer is the molded heel cup that keeps your foot in the optimal position for pedaling, while resisting deformation from extreme performance and prolonged pressure. Lastly, the sole has bosses for spikes, with the toe area being replaceable to ensure years of longevity.

Solid Choice

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 44

I use a cross bike during the winter for training and I have been riding them for the last 5 months. I got these shoes to replace a 15 year pair of Sidi winter shoes that finally wore out the treads. The are a noticeable upgrade in terms of fit and feel from the prior model.
I typically will ride 2-3 hours in temps spanning 25-50 F. I will add toe covers rather than a heavy wool sock below 35 F as the tips of my toes will start to get cold after a while. As a note the covers still leaves the treads exposed for good traction when walking. For a ride under an hour, I probably would not bother with the covers. I did ride these through light rain a few times and the shoes repel water but the top cannot really seal so eventually water will work down without a gaiter.
I wear a 44 in normal Sidi road shoes and based on other reviews I got this size. For any normal mid-weight winter sock it was a nice fit. For warmer temps in the mid to upper 40s, I would switch to a summer sock and there is a bit of movement near the heal when walking but not when riding. If I were doing a lot of dismounts and run/hike that might get annoying. You can wear a heavy winter sock and still have these fit without feeling too constricting but I found the cover to be better option when it is colder.
In the end, after 5 months the shoes look new still and the construction appears good. For my use case, they work well and the only minor complaint I have is the inability to replace the treads. Assuming another 15 years of use, I think the price is justifiable.

Couldn't be happier!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 41

These Sidi's were the third brand of winter shoes I tried. The others were "okay". When I tried these on, my first impressions were very positive but thought they'd be too tight on my slightly wide feet. So I wore them around the house for a couple of days with thick or medium weight wool socks, and wasn't totally convinced the size was doable. I usually wear Sidi Dominator's size 40. However, I have to wear them with thin socks. I also have Sidi Dominator's size 40.5, which are way too wide, so I've been wearing them with heavy winter socks and shoe covers as cold-weather shoes. Sometimes my feet were cold even with shoe covers.
Today I did a 40-mile ride with the Gore Frost shoes, size 41. Temps were in the upper 30s and no sun. I wore medium weight wool socks. The shoes fit well and kept my feet warm. I (i.e., my Sidis) received many compliments on how great they looked. They look closer to road shoes than trail shoes, which is good for me. I could have worn thicker socks without any problems. I think I could even wear size 40 with thinner socks, but I need these shoes with thicker socks for colder temps.
