    Shift into a higher gear.

Keeping your bike shifting with crisp precision, the Shimano XTR/Dura-Ace CN-HG901 11-Speed Chain pairs brilliantly with the brand's top-flight XTR and Dura-Ace 11-speed drivetrains. It represents the very best among Shimano's line, which puts it in the running as the best chain, period. This year's model features a revised plate profile that's compatible with E-bikes and single-speed applications. It's no longer vulnerable to separations in the aforementioned applications because it's able to withstand the higher torque generated by E-bikes.

The chain's slight asymmetry pairs perfectly with Shimano's 9000 series drivetrains for silky-smooth gear shifts and greater power transfer, and the low-friction SIL-TEC treatment glides across your cassette's cogs with minimal friction. Ultimately, this allows you to focus on riding without worrying about your chain keeping up with rapid shifting and high-cadence efforts.

    • The chain featured on pro bikes from trail to road
    • Compatible with Shimano's top 11-speed drivetrains
    • SIL-TEC low-friction treatment
    • Asymmetrical, uni-directional design
    • Reinforced to work with E-bikes
    • Includes a quick link for easier installment

    Unbreakable?!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Probably not but I've tried breaking this chain and just can't do it!! The secret sauce is in the hollow pin construction where said pin gives it full purchase of that outer plate. Rumor has it you can even ride recklessly with it on both e-bikes and single speeds. That in itself is very telling for the usage on mere mortal's velocipedes. I've got this chain paired with an XT-M8000 crankset, derailleur, cassette and XTR M9000 shifter and the combination works famously. Might be all in my head but the overall drivetrain friction seems lower relative to lesser chains I've used in the past.

Is this chain compatible with a 105 group set?

Hi Kyle, this chain will work just fine with a Shimano 105 11 speed groupset.

    No brainer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Cant go wrong with this chain, shimano quaility, using it with ultegra groupset, nothing to complaint

    Great Chain

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I go through about 3 of these per year. I have never had a failure. They get a great number of miles on them before needing to be changed.

    Only chain I use

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It was time to replace the chain on my Di2 11 spd road bike. Went with this tried and true chain. Works great. Was the same chain that came on the bike.

Don't overlook your chain, get the best

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Investing in a high quality chain like the XTR is essential to the longevity of your whole drivetrain system. This chain is light-weight and extremely durable. I have used this chain for many seasons without any stretch at all.

How many links does the chain have?

    116

    Dura Ace/XTR Quality

Nice quality chain, made even nicer now that Shimano has switched to a quicklink which makes install even easier than before. This is probably my 6th chain between my road and mountain bikes and i've never had any issues.

      Smooth and quiet.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Really quiet while shifting. Nothing to complain about.

      Solid choice

The Shimano XTR chain is a great choice that holds up well under a lot of abuse. I replaced mine after a full season of hard riding, and it held up well over the entire period. Solid choice.

        Good Chain

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Good chain. I've liked it so far, works really good. Hasn't stretched too much.

        Replace your chain!

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great replacement chain to keep your drive train from wearing prematurely.

        Best chain

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Only complaint is the lube it comes with. According to friction facts, you need to degrease the chain and use better lube (Squirt, Rock n' Roll, etc.) before installation

I may be one of few who disagree - I actually like the factory grease. It may be not as fast as the fastest rated dry lubes, perhaps, but it is my experience that the grease stays good for over two hundred miles (assuming no faulty weather). I have yet to find grease that can do that and still is as (relatively) clean as the factory grease from Shimano. If I knew where to buy it, I would.

Grease aside, it is a great chain. I love it. I can get more than three thousand miles on it. I could probably put even more (again, in good weather), but I tend to replace chains at first sign of wear - still before the 0.75 mm mark.

        Great Chain While It Lasts

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm reviewing this after going through 3 previous Dura-Ace chains. This chain runs fast & quiet if cleaned & lubed regularly. I managed to get about 3000 miles with several races sprinkled in before the chain wear tool said it was done. This thing makes quite a bit of noise under load when she's stretched.

Note: Wears out noticeably faster than Ultegra but the price bump isn't too bad.

        No brainer!!!!

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the best chain that money can buy!

        as good as it gets

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've run the DA chains on most my bikes now, I always go back to them. No failure issues, super dependable, light, fast.

Hello! Does this come with a quick link? I can’t find an answer anywhere but I believe the 701 (Ultegra model) one you guys have does. I’m hoping this is the same case!

        Simply the best.

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have a mix and match of components of SRAM and Shimano on my road, CX, and mountain bikes but one thing is always consistent, Shimano chains. It simply shifts crisper than other chains on the market and the quality is always reliable. Invest in a good chain checker and use it and your cassettes will last for many years.

        great quality, wears well

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

the shimano chains always wear well. The quality is fantastic, but the chain works best with shimano specific drivetrain parts. The no quick link is kind of a bummer, but it forced me to buy a chain cleaner by park tool and it works great so I don't have to take off the chain.

At last, Shimano has a Quick-Link

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Although Shimano chains wear well and are light, I always preferred the quick-link offered by Sram and KMC. With a link tool, you can easily take the chain on/off the bike to clean or maintain it. The Shimano pins worked well but taking the chain off the bike isn't nearly as convenient.

        Great chain

The Shimano XTR CN-HG901 chain is the top of the line from Shimano and it won't disappoint. It's lightweight but still quite durable. I've put over 1000 hard, dusty miles on mine and it's still going strong.
