Building up a new bump-devouring enduro sled has never been more fun. Before you pick up the FC-M8000 and start to doubt that it's solid enough to actually withstand the abuse you're about to give it on-trail, think about Hollowtech II. Cold-forged aluminum with a hollowed center establishes an extremely durable structure, while shaving unnecessary weight from the middle of the crank arms. Don't concern yourself with longevity or durability worries, because the FC-M8000's bombproof construction actually makes it stronger than many solid crank arms. Shimano's tried and true XT crank optimized for 1x and hollowed out for lightness. Just a great crankset at a great price. Love it, I also went with the absolute black chainring and love the system works.

I just received this crankset from Backcountry and it does not appear to be optimized for 1x. The spider has bolt holes for two chain rings. I already have a single narrow-wide installed on a 2x crankset. It looks like this "1x" set will still give a chain line as if running a double. I assumed this crankset would only take single and would position it toward the large cog side by 2 or 3 millimeters.

Will this fit my 2016 beargrease carbon x7? I believe it has a 41x121 bb. Or do you have better/similar recommendations from raceface? Thx!

I purchased a stock Specialized Rumor for my wife and have been upgrading components as time/money permit. For $95 you will never find a better set of crank arms. I am changing her over from a 3 x 9 to a 1 x 10 system with XT all the way through. Great purchase, easy to maintain and will take any physical abuse you want to apply to them.

      These are used on a trail bike with a 32 tooth OneUp ring. Chain line is great, no issues after several hundred hard miles.

      Why would this only work with 11 speed? Couldn't it work with a 10 speed single as well?

      Solid Performer

        I've had about a half dozen rides so far on my complete XT 1X11 set up, on mixed single-track, moderate downhill and serious climbs. So far I love it! I know it's not as light as the SRAM drivetrains, but the cost and simplicity of the drivetrain swap pays big time. No dropped chains, no mis-shifts. I'm really loving it. Coming from a 3X or 2X set up, I don't have the top-end road speed, but who cares! If you're thinking about upgrading, do it.

          The tech specs made me beleive that this came with a shimano bottom bracket, but the crank arms do not. Still real solid crank arms to say the least but wish for the price it came with a bottom bracket, for the same price I could have gone with a zee crankset and it would have come with chainring and BB

          I have a Scott Spark 950 with shimano fc m622 crankset, will this xt crankset fit with the bottom bracket installed? I think its BB92

          Shimano XT has always been my number one choice for drivetrain and brakes. The value provided is the best in the industry and as the years go on, XTR technology always trickles down to the XT level.

          The new M-8000 series cranks are no exception to the above statement. The cranks are plenty light and stiff and are easily mounted with their thru axle and pinch bolt design. It is worth noting to absolutely follow the torque specs for the pinch bolts printed on the non-drive side crank. Tighten the bolts in sequence, to assure even clamping force, make sure the plastic clip is seated and flush, and use a torque wrench to achieve the recommended setting. Ride your bike then check these again.

          All in all these are a great crankset, packing performance and value in a sleek black package...About that black finish-
          The black coating is wearing off very quickly due to shoe contact with the crank, leading to a polished surface beneath. This doesn't really bother me, but it can be a bit unsightly. A person could use one of the many aftermarket crank protection films on the market, or some clear 3M tape.
