An unsung hero.

When you turn the pedals, you often take for granted that each link of your chain will go on grabbing each cog of your cassette for every mile of every ride. That is, until the day it stops, and you're left standing in the shoulder questioning your life decisions with a stretched, broken, and useless chain. If you're in this position, we'd recommend upgrading to Shimano's XT/Ultegra CN-HG701 11-Speed Chain. Its anti-friction Sil-Tec coating and precise, reliable construction ensure long life and smooth pedaling. Whether you're on the road, trail, or somewhere in the middle, the HG701's asymmetrical design will keep you shifting consistently through your 11-speed drivetrain so you can focus on enjoying your ride.

  • The racer's chain for mountain and road bikes
  • Anti-friction coating keeps lost watts to a minimum
  • Includes a quick link for easier installment

I must have gotten a bad one.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Everything I've read about this chain has been good, so when it came time to replace mine I bought it without hesitation. What a mistake! It broke twice within the first ten minutes of use. I was riding in Dupont when it happened, and had to kill an hour to go to one of the local bike shops to buy a replacement. I don't think I'll ever buy another one.

between xt and xtr chain, which one is more durable? thank you

Durable and Affordable

As far as Shimano chains go, Ultegra is the way to go. Competitive weight without lacking durability and longevity. Clean it well and pair it with your favorite lube and you'll be smooth rolling for months to come.

Makes the wheels turn, great quality, easy to install.

    Does the job

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The XT level chain will get the job done. If you are looking for a bit lighter weight and maybe more durability, go with the XTR version.

Chain is a chain is a chain

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Not really...Shimano chain paired with the cassette makes things work well....also used a quick link, not the pin (saving that one for a pinch).

XT vs XTR....less money and works just as good'r.

It now includes a quick link in the box (mine did, anyway)

Steven Y. Yes, both quik link and pin. It's nice to have a backup...

As sweet as a chain can get

Nice chain that will go nicely with your new 1x11 setup. Not too heavy, and ride strong for miles and miles!

    great 11 speed chain

great chain for the money my only dislike is shimanos master link pin style, i prefer the kmc clip style but other than that its a solid chain

      Great Chain

Excellent choice for your Shimano 11 speed drivetrain. Works great with narrow wide rings and is reasonably priced.

Is this compatible with a Force 22 grouppo?

      Great Chain

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It probably goes without saying but like the rest of Shimano's Ultegra drivetrain, this chain works flawlessly. Totally to be expected but it's good to know that you can rely on your components. The fact that I rarely think about it is a testament.

      Shimano Works...

Building up a new bike and chose Shimano because of my previous experience with how well these parts work.

      Shimano xt chain

Great chain for the price! Very durable and last pretty long.

      Good on dirt and tarmac

I use this on my 11 speed Ultegra and 11 speed XT. Been happy with it on both bikes. I have broken a chain on my Ultegra, but I mostly attribute that to misalignment on the rear derailleur on a high pressure ride. I don't think any chain would have handled that.

      Unanswered Question

Does this chain include a master (quick) link?

      Good chain

Hasn't broken yet. Shifts well. I have this paired with a RaceFace narrow-wide chainring and XT cassette.

        Hard to beat

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Hard to beat this chain at this price, such a great value. I bought one for a specific bike I needed to replace a chain on. Once I used this chain I bought another almost instantly for a new bike build.

        A great deal

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I just purchased this new chain to give it a try because the price was too good to beat. A week later I bought 3 more to swap out the chains on all my bikes. Works great on my road bike, gravel bike and mountain bike.

Best Shimano 11 speed chain ever!!

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This the best chain i've used so for for my shimano drivetrain.. Its light, durable, quite and shifts like a Charm. Get it!!

Is this chain compatible with Ultegra Di2 (6800)?

Yes--absolutely. Perfectly. I run it on my SC Stigmata Ultegra Di2 that I bought from Competitive Cyclist before 8000 came out.
