Speed demon.

You better bring the heat if you're rolling up to the starting line with a name like "Racing Ralph." Well, that is most definitely the case when it comes to the Schwalbe Racing Ralph Addix 29in Tire. With an inherent need for speed, this tire begins with the Addix Speed compound, which features an optimal combo of rolling speed, grip, and durability, and works in perfect harmony with the off-center central tire pattern that maximizes fast rolling performance and sheds mud with side knobs, yet still holds tight where it matters most. This design enables you to open up and get going in a hurry without losing grip, while the SnakeSkin protection provides extra defense against trail debris to extend your tire's life.

  • Race-ready tire designed to bring speed to the course
  • Addix Speed compound has low-rolling resistance
  • Off-center tire pattern rolls fast and delivers traction
  • Folding bead with tubeless capabilities boosts versatility
  • Snakeskin sidewall protection beefs up defense

ADDIX? Sure, Why Not.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I know that Schwalbe has been known to make performance tires that are ready to grip and rip the trails, but I also know they historically have not lasted very long. The company dropped tons of money on new machinery to get consistent compounds, and updated their compound for longer lasting tires that still perform. Typically you have to give up longevity for cornering grip, and I am fine with that to a degree. I am coming off of some other XC race treads and have been very impressed with the grip and speed that the Racing Ralph's offer. I went with the 2.35" tires for a little extra volume to protect my carbon rims at lower pressures. I am on a rigid single speed with these and they have been great. Based on the minimal wear so far, I think the new compound is going to be a nice update.

Forrest- thanks for the initial review. Now that you have had some time on the tires. How are they holding up? I have run the older generation Pace star version and frustrated on how the side nobs peel at about 3-4 months. Other than that they have been a great tire.

@JAMSTU, I truly believe Schwalbe makes a great tire that is heavily focused on performance, grip, speed and ride quality but sort of ignores the fact that a non racer would like to get close to a season out of their tires, especially at a $90 per tire price point. These tires are on my Single Speed and have held up fine but I have only ridden them a dozen times since mounting them so I cannot speak accurately to long term. They are the best performing tires (ride quality, speed and traction) I have mounted to this bike though.

Thanks for the follow up ! keep riding.
