liked the boot but the front sole separated after only the second time wearing. I would probably look at other shoes before this one in future.

Great pair of boots! Easily the best that I have ever owned. Wore them on a 38 mile thru hike at the Buffalo River for 15 hours straight and they were extremely comfortable, supportive, and still looked brand new afterwards. Sold on Scarpa!

Great boot but had to get a size larger than I normally wear. Insole in the boot is garbage, very slick and kept bunching up at the heal after a very short time. Replaced with an insole from a pair of danners and it solved the problem. Never had any other boot or shoe do that. I would walk about a half a mile and my toes would be hanging off the end of the insole. That needs to be addressed. Other than that they are a great boot.

    Boots great but delivery annoying

These are the 5th pair of Scarpa hiking or mountaineering boots that I have purchased over the past 12 years. I love them and have found them to be great workhorses that are as comfortable at the end of the day as they are at the beginning. I've used them in Nepal, the Andes and these new ones are for hiking in NZ later this year. I suspect that I will not buy any brand other than Scarpa again. I can't praise the boot too highly.

However, given that Back Country does not seem to offer another mechanism for feedback I apologize for having to air my annoyances with the delivery process through this channel. I have used Back Country on three occasions over the past 5 years and have been happy with them as a company and will be happy to continue to do business with them into the future. But,I live in Australia and I was annoyed with the UPS delivery service. I paid a significant amount of money to have these boots shipped to me only for UPS to be silent through the delivery process and then attempt to deliver them when I was not at home (not an unusual occurrence I would have thought). If they had contacted me I could have made alternative delivery arrangements or even just asked them to leave them at the front door which would have been perfectly safe from my perspective. Instead, I received no contact and so I am then the one who had to do the running around to collect the boots. Its a lot of money for a partial service.

    Masterpiece

    Design, comfort, both alright.
It is definitely a masterpiece of hiking boots.
It is a pity that the lowest hook is difficult to use.
If it is improved, it is star 5.

    Tight Toe Box

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I really wanted to like these boots. Extremely comfortable around the ankle and heel, but the toe box is way to small for an average foot. Even tried a bigger size since the rest of the boot was awesome. In the end, disappointed to have to return without ever leaving the house in them.

Scarpa boots are the best boots I have ever owned and won’t ever buy anything else. I am a professional tree climber and wear these boots every day. They are extremely comfortable and tough. The shank in the sole keeps my football stable and comfy all day. I worked storm duty for 40 hours straight in a blizzard and my feet were warm and dry by the end of my shift. The uppers are very durable. The soles wear a little fast but only because I wear them for everything everyday. I’m going on 6 years on my first pair and just bought by my second pair. Scarpa boots are the best.

    Runs Small!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 43.5

I wear a size 10 street shoe and ordered a size 43.5. My toes were just touching the front of the boot! Returning and swapping for a 44.5.

Initial impression is that the boot is very high quality. The stretch fabric tongue system felt really good. I have narrow heels and issues getting my heels locked down. Wearing the boots around the house my feet felt very secure. Will update my review when the new size arrives.

    Great Boot

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small

I've had these boots for 3 or 4 months now. It ran about a half size too small and backcountry.com really work with me to get the right size that service was awesome. I probably have two to three hundred miles on these boots with loads ranging from 25 to over 100 pounds in my pack. I would buy them again and recommend them to a friend. I've generally warm upper end hiking boots in the past these boots are unique in that there are lightweight shoe with a heavy hiking boot type sole. At five foot eight 175 lb these boots fit my need. I recently returned from a late-season hunt in snow and rain with quality Gators my feet stay dry for six days. I was able to dry them at night. I generally wear Darn Tough socks and I use an orthopedic insole that I have in several boots damn at night I generally where darn tough socks and I use an orthopedic in Seoul that I have in several boots. I'm not sure they breathe as well as other boots because my feet were wet from perspiration. Overall love the boots

    Initial Inspection looks great!

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 43.0

I ordered my boots a half size larger than my normal shoe. Several reviews have mentioned that the boot runs slightly smaller than normal street shoes, and with wearing a liner sock and a wool sock, I thought it'd be a good idea to have a little more room. That was the right choice. Just enough room to run double layers without too much difficulty.
Finish of the boots is great. I found no hardware that was sub par in finish or quality. Laces are satisfactory, though some may criticize them as weak. I find that the laces do a great job of biting tightly into themselves when tied and don't untie easily. The same lace material is used on my Scarpa approach shoes. Never have had a problem with the laces to date.
These boots are very stable. Purposefully trying to roll your ankle left or right is a difficult task. The boots are very supportive and yet are relatively light for the type of boot. Traction is great, even on wet slick linolium/tile floor. Tread on the boot would seem aggressive enough for the intended purpose without appearing overly luggy. The tongue of the boot is super comfortable. Scarpa's 'comfort fit' technology is definitely apparent in the design. So far, even with light athletic socks and the arizona heat, i haven't had any issues with my feet getting sweaty.

Hopefully I will soon get to use the boot hard on a backpacking trip. Will update with information after the trip.

    UPDATE 15 MAY 19
So my initial impressions were good, but after wearing these boots for a while, I was not impressed. I found the sole of the boot too firm for my comfort over long mileage. Also found the toe box of the boot to be narrow enough to make long days uncomfortable. I noticed the narrowness and sole discomfort at the end of long days on my feet. I should note however, my research on Scarpa boots indicated they tend to run on the narrow side. The initial narrowness was not noticeable until my feet had swollen from hiking. The boots are good in regard to general construction and material durability; just not a good fit for my feet.

    Comfortable & Durable

Use: 1 season/550 hours. North Cascades National Park backcountry/off trail research. 10hrs/day, 8 consecutive days. Boots are slightly less than 1/2 their life now.

These hiking boots perform outstandingly in many ways compared to other "similar-type" boots I've worked in. The performance/durability to weight top notch.

-Durability: Very good. These appear like they would withstand over 3 years of typical use. Sole wears evenly w/o breaking tread blocks. No peeling, punctures, inside-holes, or broken hardware. The Schoeller upper is very durable, not getting punctured by sticks or pilling from thorns. GTX above toes needs maint. every 50-ish hours at boot's half-life (typical for two+ piece uppers).

    - Comfort: EVA Foam absorbent without being overly sloppy. Sole provides good wet and dry grip without wearing quickly. Lacing is well done giving tons of support or very little. The sock fit works to distribute pressure over the foot. The overall construction is a great balance of stability and walking.

    Comfortable & Durable

      What break in period?

I picked these boots up mid summer two days before a backpacking trip and didn't have time to break them in. I was pretty nervous hitting the trail with something so new but over the next three days I put 30 miles (challenging terrain in the mission mountains) on them and they did great. No blisters and no hotspots for the first two days. The last day I got blisters on the inside of both big toes, this was at no fault of the boot. The only reason I had any issues was because the boots were wet the entire time due to constant bushwacking though wet waist high brush and several rivers. Since then I have put a lot of miles on them in normal hiking conditions and they have continued to do very well and see to be quite durable. These boots fall into that middle weight level of boots where you get a good combo of support and yet maintain a light weight feel.

Thanks for the review Landon! Super helpful to get this feedback out to the community.

        A good pair of boots!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: 46

I purchased these boots in the middle of summer. I did have to go a half size bigger than I first thought. They fit perfectly now. I have had three major hikes in them with a few small break in, warm up hikes. They handle all types of terrain very well and feel solid even with a heavy pack on. We have a lot of volcanic scree in these parts and the Scarpa's preform with ease. Only complaint is they run a little hot and it did cause me to get a pretty heathy blister on my inside heel. I am just going to change up my sock options during the warmer months. All in all I can see these boots taking me to where I want to go for a long time to come:)

These boots rock on the trail! I wish they were a tad more breathable, but that is my only, minuscule complaint!

Awesome Right Out of the Box

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: True to size

Picked these up recently replacing a pair of La Sportiva Omega GTX. Right out of the box these boots looked and felt great with a very comfortable and relatively light feel. Took them out for a quick overnighter to the Palisades in the Eastern Sierra to take advantage of a great spring weather window in March. The boots handled great overall on all terrains from dry rocky subalpine to the snows above 9k'. My feet stayed dry, though a little cold, while hiking & snowshoeing in the snow and had great traction on one frozen lake crossing.
Not the burliest boot, but a burly boot was not something that I was after. Good ankle support with proper lacing that had me feeling secure even with a 45lb pack. Looking forward to future trails with these kicks!
