Kit creep is a real thing. It starts benignly—a thermal jersey, a second pair of more insulated booties—but it can eventually take over an entire dresser, closet, or bedroom floor. There are some essential pieces, though, and even the most clutter-conscious cyclist can't do without something like Santini's Cape Town Men's Wind Vest. On early spring days when every pedal stroke is countered by gusts of wind, the Cape Town vest at least takes the injury of a chilled core out of the insult of wasted watts. The inclusion of three rear pockets is an uncommon touch for wind vests, and it provides quick access to gloves, warmers, or gels in order to ensure that you're able to keep wasting watts for dozens of miles.

  • A classic wind vest for gusty base mile rides
  • Protects your core when wind is your main opponent
  • Light on insulation to protect on spring and fall days
  • Three rear pockets stow additional cold-weather kit
  • Full-length zip lets you cool off on climbs but quickly zip-up for the descent

Great, attractive vest, runs small

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Really am liking this vest. It's attractive and very functional. I like that it is solid material on front and back (some vests have mesh backs, which would let rain in), and I really like the rear pockets. It's light but durable fabric. I wish it had more reflectivity - but I always want more reflectivity in bike clothing. it certainly does run small: I'm normally a Large (6.0", 180 pounds), but had to exchange the L I ordered for an XL, which fits me well.

V. nice piece for the money

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XXL

I bought this to extend my winter gear down a few degrees, and for an easily packable backup when that winter sun goes down really fast. This is nicely made and well fitting - no flapping or air catch on downhills. It's easily compressed into a standard jersey pocket. I'm 5'11, 185 with a thick build, and the XXL fits me perfect - I know from other Santini pieces I've gotten that XXL is the mark for me.

I'm 5-10 and fluctuate between 180 and 185 - sometimes dropping to ~177; do you think I should go for an XXL or XL?

Hey, Rod... I'd go XXL, unless you really like a tight fit.

Too small

This is a nice well made product however the sizes run way small. I wear a size 42-44 coat and ordered an XL. It didn't come close to fitting. My wife who is a size 10 tried it on and it was too small for her.

    Perfect wind layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Santini guys are focused to create good, light, durable stuff, this vest became a perfect wind stopper for an early chilly rides, easy to pack, really happy with it
