Salomon

From its beginnings in the French Alps in 1947 to today, Salomon's passion for the mountains fueled revolutionary, technology-driven concepts in bindings, boots, skis and apparel for both alpine and Nordic skiing. It also brought innovative solutions to footwear, apparel, and equipment for snowboarding, mountaineering, hiking, trail running, and many other sports. But that's not surprising, given that Francois and Georges Salomon, founders of the company that still bears their name, were trained engineers.<br><br>The Salomon father-son duo opened their shop in Annency making saw blades and ski edges; within five years Georges had introduced a new, better cable binding and, as the safety binding continued to evolve, the first binding with a step-in heel piece in the late '60s. By 1972 Salomon was the world's leading binding maker. Salomon's first boot, the rear-entry SX90 was a milestone for the brand, and it's successor, the rear-entry SX91, was met with great acclaim. The SNS Nordic binding and Salomon's first skis followed suit, and it wasn't long before the company was a global leader in ski equipment for both alpine and Nordic disciplines. Hiking shoes and hiking boots were introduced soon after, and the company extended its reach into all four seasons.<br><br>Beginning in 1997, Salomon began expanding into new sports, including snowboarding and trail running, with equipment, footwear, and apparel. <p>There's a reason that Salomon’s Warden binding system has been around for so long, with an adamant following nonetheless. In addition to being a burly 13-DIN ripper, the Warden is designed to be compatible with pretty much any boot (just check that your boot is either ISO 5355, ISO 9523, or WTR-certified), saving you the cash and hassle of investing in a whole quiver of different boots and bindings.
