Too many trails end just below the summit, and even though there are signs and scree fields telling you to stop, you know you can make it to the top with the Salewa Men's Wander Hiker Leather Shoe. This low-cut hiking shoe boasts a Michelin rubber sole with a spiky tread similar to brand-new dirtbike tires, so you can confidently hike off-the-trail terrain if you decide to break the law for the summit's spectacular views.

  • Leather hiker with modern updates for a technical performance
  • Durable nubuck leather keeps the upper strong for seasons
  • Smooth full-grain leather lining for easy on-and-off
  • Flex Collar and 3F increase ankle's range of motion
  • Ortholite footbed and GumFlat midsole for cushy comfort
  • Michelin tire tread made of Outdoor Compound rubber

Initial Impressions here

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 11.5

Purchased these shoes not to hike in but rather for my construction job. Most construction shoes are very bulky and heavy and/or have steel toes which for my work are unnecessary. So all that aside, to say I was looking for something light but very durable.
Update 11/22/18:
Well I was able to resolve the issue with my one ankle rubbing on the collar as I walked, I simply added a pair on insoles to the ones already in these shoes and got my feet high enough to eliminate this problem. Yay! Unfortunately other problems have arose, as another reviewer mention these shoes are NOT welted and the toe sole has become loose. However, shoe glue can solve this problem, I hope so crisis in this area may be avoidable. Otherwise the shoe is holding up phenomenally and again remember I am pushing these shoes well past their intended use. To serious hikers I would recommend going with welted sole as that measure always to proves to be the best solution to sole and upper cohesion.
Original Post:
The leather upper is a big plus and feels like it will indeed last the test of time and use. The Michelin soles have outstanding grip and a very hard. The upper portion of the sole is exceptionally soft and comfortable which is great for walking on hard rocks or in my case concrete. The soles are not sewn or riveted to the upper which may in the future lead to separation but I have no initial reasons to believe that this would indeed occur.
The only downside I have encountered is that on my right foot the edge on the outside foot opening rubs against my ankle and creates noticeable rubbing pain. The other foot and shoe have no such problem so it may be foot or part of breaking in this pair for my feet. I will try to update in the future if this problem continues or disappears.
Overall, I am very happy with Salewa's product here. Fit is spot on, lightweight and comfortable, and the build quality is superb. I would definitely recommend theses shoes to anyone. And even though I am using them not for their intended purpose they have all the initial signs of a shoe that will continue to provide the requirements I need of them into the future.

Everyday comfort!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've worn these shoes around town and for traveling internationally, and they have been perfect. Wide fit is great for everyday use. The leather lining is super comfortable. The gumflate soles provide good cushion and traction for hiking.

Just so you know...

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 8.5

This is really a well made comfortable shoe (good leather) that seems as though it will last a good long time. My only disappointment is that the tounge is not gusseted, so beware. If this isn't an issue with you I say go for it you'll be pleasantly surprised but for me this was a deal breaker and they will need to go back.

Great shoe!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: EU 44

I bought these to use on a National Park road trip. Hiked all over badlands and Teton NP in them. Minimal break in, wide toe box and leather lining. The gumflate midsole and the Michelin soles absorbed everything, and had great traction. Well made shoe that looks like it will last. Would buy again. I usually wear a 10 sometimes 10 1/2, the EU 44 fit perfect.
