Lightweight protection from successive impact.

The Salewa Vega Helmet transitions from demanding sport routes to daunting big walls thanks to its Carbon Nano Tech shell, which combines an incredibly light feel with impressive protective against falling debris and hard knocks. It absorbs the brunt of multiple successive impacts with an EPP foam liner, regardless if it's from falling rock or due to taking a whipper on route.

The easy-adjust dial provides a micro-adjustable fit, so it's never slipping off your head when you need it most. Large angular vents prevent overheating and excess perspiration in stifling heat. Other functional details include integrated headlamp clips, as well as removable padding for easy cleaning.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

So what drew me to the vega? it's an EPP helmet at the $100 mark with a "carbon nano tech shell" which is supposed to be more durable than the vectors eps foam and polycarbonate shell. I use my gear hard and hard on my gear. I don't alway remember to baby my helmet after a 12hr push. That being said it's not the lightest in the $100 EPS/EPP category but sometimes there is a point when durability wins over a few ounces. Although what wasn’t apparent from the pictures of the helmet was that the shell doesn’t come down and wrap around the edges. This ultimately was what made me decide to return it. I was fine giving up a few grams for durability but the edges are surly going to get trashed, especially after i could see a few nicks on it right out of the box from factory handling.

other things.
pros:
-comes in a solid color/simple
-Adjustment wheel tucks away
-shell feels much stronger than the polycarb of BD and Petzl

personal preference:
-sits a smidge higher than my BD half dome
-headlamp attachment is not great. will work but my BD lamp won’t sit flat and hangs off the edge. (BD storm)
