Ridley's X-Trail gravel adventure bike loves getting dirty, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we always want to get dirty, too. The X-Trail Mud Fender stands in for those occasions when you want the trail muck or road spray to stay down, keeping your shorts, rain paints, or commuting chinos splatter free. The kit is compatible with the X-Trail frame and Oryx Disc fork with the 15mm thru-axle, and includes the necessary seatstay hardware to mount a fender out back, too. Please note, however, that the kit isn't compatible with flat-mount brakes.

- Q & A
Ridley X-Trail Mudguards
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
First, the good news ... these fenders are made for the Ridley X-Trail frame and they fit the bike wonderfully. They do work on the flat mount frame notwithstanding the description on the website indicating otherwise.
Second, the not so great news, and it's not all that bad. They are a cumbersome to install. The back fender requires a drill for the hole that fits the plastic seat stay bridge. The holes are clearly marked and arranged according to the bike's frame size, S, M, L, etc...
The screws and other small hardware are neither the same same type, hex, torx, nor are those same hardware deep enough to to fit the tools needed to tighten the screws that come with the fenders. And good luck finding a tool that is supposed to fit the screw that goes with the seat stay clamp. I didn't have one and nor did my engineer neighbor. I had to tighten by hand as best I could and then use two plastic ties to secure the clamp.
Finally, the fenders are not terribly long towards their back ends, both front and rear. While they will do an adequate job of keeping the rider reasonably dry, heaven help any riders unfortunate enough to be trailing this particular bike. They will be taking a grit shower!
All that said, I still prefer these fenders to other aftermarket fenders simply because they are made specifically for this bike. All other fenders that I considered required Velcro or some other substance/material to secure the fender to secure the fenders to the frame.
