Why We Like The Turbine-R 35 Stem

It's been said in the world of mountain bike components pick two of the following characteristics: lightweight, strong, and cheap. Though we're sure there's a few components that buck this characterization, they're about as common as Sasquatch sightings along the trail. Hitting both the lightweight and high-strength aspects of this famous trope,  the Race Face Turbine-R 35 Stem features CNC-machined 7075 aluminum for the best in all-mountain strength without the serious weight penalty. Its high-volume design improves upon the ever-popular Turbine Stem sourced on many trail and XC bikes, with the 35-millimeter clamp working harmoniously with the beefier 35-millimeter diameter bars preferred by all-mountain and enduro riders.

    • Strong stem for all-mountain and enduro
    • High-volume design with durable 7075 aluminum
    • Extensively machined for a lightweight feel
    • 35-millimeter clamp works with beefier handlebars

    Excellent stem - I own 3

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

The stem functions perfectly and if you buy one, expect it to do the job it's intended to without any issues! I currently own three of them and would consider buying another one if needed.

However, I do have one small complaint. For the price, the stem should come with stainless or Ti hardware like other stems in this price-point do. After a few seasons, every one of these stems I've owned has started to show some corrosion or rust at the bolts which could be avoided with nicer hardware. That said, a few dollars later, and I've swapped all the hardware to stainless to avoid the issue going forward.

Same problem here. Where did you get SS hardware from?

    Well made and looks great!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Great addition to my rig. Light, looks great, exceptionally well made.

    Well made and looks great!

    Looks great

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just put the 40mm version of this on my Yeti SB4.5c and it looks great - pumped to see how it feels on the trail, since I'm downsizing from the 50mm stem that came on it.

    Great Stem

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I really like this stem. It’s 35mm clamp for the new bigger bars, no-rise, and machined beautifully. The top-lock clamping design takes the guess work out of evenly tightening the bolts.

    Super Burly

This stem seems to be a copy of the old Easton Haven stem, which I had good luck with in the past as well. The Toplock design is simple and a bit easier to check tension every so often. Seems moderately light with good styling.

      Solid Stem

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've been running Race Face as my cockpit/crankset setup on a few rigs now and getting the Turbine Stem on my newest bike (Evil Following, Med Frame size) on a 50mm size and it runs pretty well. Has a solid feel with a lower profile body and the sizing with my T-Rex shape is good with the frame I run. I may try a 32mm size to fine tune the fit and get a bit more reaction from the front end of the bike.

The only gripe I have is while the overall shape is low-pro the head of the stem is bulky enough to where it gets weird with my light system. Granted I run a Gemini Titan handlebar light (freaking awesome by the way) so the light is a bit bulky itself but it gets in the way a bit.
