    First class bike travel.

Throw caution to the wind once you're at the trailhead, but not on the drive over. Stow your bikes safely in the bed of your truck to and from the trails with the Race Face Tailgate Pad. The durable PVC it's made out of is pretty tough to destroy, so you can feel comfortable leaving your babies in its care for the drive. Plus, it features plush padding and hook-and-loop closures to keep your bikes from moving around or hitting each other when you take a corner a little hotter than intended. A micro-brushed lining protects your tailgate from bumps and scratches, and a flap keeps your gate lever accessible in case you need to open it up.

    • Tailgate pad protects bikes and vehicles during transport
    • Extra padding prevents bikes from hitting one another
    • Straps secure bikes in-place

The BEST tailgate pad but doesn’t last

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I’ll start by saying that for all but new style full size trucks I think that this is the best designed tailgate pad out. The notches for bikes are perfect for quickly and easily keeping bikes in place and the soft material on the underside of the pad is great for not scratching your truck. However, I’ve had two of them now and they seem to completely fall apart after about two seasons. The black quickly fades to grey within the first year and then the fabric/straps starts to deteriorate the second. I do tend to leave the pad on all summer long but still I think it should hold up better than that. Secondly, if you have a newer generation full size truck with a thicker tailgate this pad fits very awkwardly. I’m going to give the Dakine DLX a try this time around and see how that goes. Raceface needs a redesign with some longer lasting materials and a thicker top pad for modern tailgates and they’ll have a 5 star product. Just my two cents.

How does this affect towing of a camper trailer? I know I should be fine driving forward with clearance, but what about backing up and having to turn shareply?

    Hey Floyd,

The pad itself should not affect backing up with a camper trailer. I would be more concerned about the bike handlebars if you plan on hauling some bikes. You may need to position them a certain way to not make contact with the trailer if making a sharp turn while backing up.

    Fits 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got this for my husband as a gift, however, we ended up sending it back because he was scared someone might steal it since it's just a few straps to cut plus we live in Texas and taking it off and on would become a pain. The S/M fit a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD perfectly. We thought it was decent quality. I'm not sure it would hold up for years, especially the velcro straps but it does fit snug and the bikes stayed in place when we test fitted.

Falling apart after a year and a half

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Well, while it lasted it was nice. Unfortunately, the fabric is totally deteriorating. All the strap down strips have ripped out, so there is no way to secure bikes to the pad. The overall fabric is really brittle and frayed. I'd look somewhere else

    Best tailgate pad

I tried a few others and reviewed a bunch more. This is the best. Protects the truck and bikes. Keeps them in place with padding for the forks and frame and straps.

      Best tailgate pad

      Raceface Tailgate Pad

This pad works very well but...DO NOT leave on you're vehicle when not in use. This pad does not stand up to constant sunlight and the stitching and straps degrade quickly. If you leave it on you're vehicle it will last less than a year.

Loved it, but it didn’t last long

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Loved it, but it didn’t last long. Straps started to do degrade after 12 months. At 20 months the sewing between panels failed. I expected to get more than two years out of it, and the warrantee from and the manufacturer is only one year.

Loved it, but it didn’t last long

        Worth every penny

I got this truck bed pad for a Toyota Tacoma SR-5and it fits great. It covers the whole tailgate, and although the middle strap was a bit short, if I fed it through the hitch it worked great. The extra straps really secure the bikes well and the pad has kept my tailgate damage free!

        No brainer!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Really Awesome cover! The S/M fits my Tacoma perfectly. Its super secure as well, the bike doesn't budge. It can carry more, but realistically, 3 or 4 bikes max will will fit.

        Worth the extra money

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I originally had a Dakine pad for my truck. Nothing was wrong with it, but I found a huge scratch on my brand new truck's tailgate (granted I had 6 bikes loaded on it) after some shuttle laps in Fruita, CO. I decided to go with the Raceface after hearing it fit some friends' tailgates a little better. I actually am stoked on it! The frame/fork pads hold your bike well so you don't have sloppy bikes while headed down bumpy Moab roads.

I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma and the S/M fits great! There's about an inch of exposed tailgate on both sides, but the thick pads at the end should prevent any bikes from leaning over the pad.

        Worth the extra money

        Pretty good but..

I have had this for just over a year, the Velcro straps have literally blown off in the wind. There are 6 slots for bikes with straps, I am down to two. The straps could not hold up to the wind. That being said, the straps are not incredibly important and most similar pads do not have straps at all. If you want the straps, I’d skip it, if not, it’s a great pad.

          Keep it steady

There's no comparison when you look at transporting bikes on a rack vs a tail gate pad.

Add the quality and utility of the raceface and it's another no brainer to choose this over lesser quality pads.

            Works Great

            • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Extra padding really helps to keep bikes in place when fully strapped down, Large size is very wide so only recommend for full size XL trucks.

Works well for f150 w/ tonneau cover

Perfect for multiple bike transportation - any wider and it wouldn't have fit truck because of bed cover rails. Medium size was perfect.

              Better than the rest

I've had other tail gate pads in the past, and this one is better. The extra padding to hold the bikes in place is awesome, it keeps them from moving while on the freeway. The straps are a plus, which I haven't had to use yet but imagine will work well on bumpy, dirt roads. Fits my 2007 Tacoma nicely, and has an extra soft lining to protect my tailgate. Highly recommend this pad over others.

                works great

I like the extra bumpers to keep your bike frame in place for added protection for my truck and bike.

                  Clean and Easy

                  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I tired all three truck pads we offer and found the RaceFace to be the best. It fits my 2017 tacoma perfectly. Super easy to install. Love that it has the dividers for the bikes. By far the best and most durable truck pad on the market.

                  The best option

                  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got the smaller size for my 2007 Tacoma and it's been great. The blocks hold your frame so well that you don't even need to use the velcro in most instances. Even on bumpy Moab backroads we had 6 bikes all perfectly snug.

                  Unanswered Question

Does this pad fit a 2016 Tacoma? They have a wider tail gate then the 2015s and older. A friend had a Thule pad on his older Tacoma but it doesn't fit his new one correctly.

                  Freaking Awesome!

Such an awesome tailgate pad. My friend has the Dakine tailgate pad and this one is way better. The best part are the raised pads that your frame slides into. Had 5 bikes on it and none of them moved. Would recommend to anyone!
