Step lively.

Designed for mountaineers and backcountry adventurers alike, the Rab Latok Alpine Gaiter features waterproof breathable eVent fabric, Watergate softshell, and a tough Robic nylon ankle panel to prevent snow and slush from creeping into your boots. The hook-and-loop front closure, one-hand top drawcord, and tough rubberized underboot strap keep it securely attached when you're punching through wind crust, and the reflective print lets the others on your rope team keep an eye on you during nighttime descents.

  • Waterproof and breathable eVent fabric and Watergate softshell
  • Robic nylon ankle panel
  • Hook-and-loop front closure
  • Drawcord top closure
  • Abrasion-resistant underboot strap
  • Lace hook
  • Reflective safety print

Recommended - with a caveat

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Rab gaiters are lighter and more breathable than their OR counterpart, but what I really appreciate about them is the low-profile strap connection to the body of the gaiter. The OR versions tend to have a more protruding metal attachment that could easily catch a crampon.

The downside? The fabric is probably not as durable, but I believe as long as I keep my crampon points away from the fabric they'll last a few seasons. What more could I ask? I've retired my OR gaiters in favor of the Rabs.

Early impressions of Rab Latok Gaiters

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've only used the Rab Latok Alpine Gaiters once so far. Hiking up a route when the snow got deeper (posthole quality snow), the gaiters went on. The Velcro strap adjusters were very easy to use and adjust correctly. I like that the lace hook at the front of the gaiter is inverted (hook facing up) because once you hook it in, it will not inadvertently slip off the laces. The Velcro closure and snaps worked well. The drawstring at the top was easy to snug up for a good fit. Taking off the gaiters was equally simply with little effort.

I would recommend these gaiters over the OR gaiters that I previously was using. Too soon to determine whether they are as durable, however I didn't observe any frailties in the gaiters.

Works great

These Gaiters are very high quality and work as they should

Great gaiter

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this one because it was well reviewed and so far it has lived up to it. It's easy to put on and adjust. I wore it with my La Sportiva Nepal Cube GTX boots.

straight up crap

The boot strap broke on about the 5th outing. The boot strap is very flimsily sewn to the gaiter. I went to warranty it via the "lifetime warranty," and since I didn't save the receipt, I was told that I had to pay for the repairs. Sticking with outdoor research from now on. They actually stand by their products.

This is not for the current version of this product. The boot strap attaches to the gaiter with velcro which also allows you to adjust the bootstrap length.

    the do-all gaiter

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Rab killed it (once again) with these gaiters. They're perfect for virtually everything: winter hiking, snowshoeing, snow climbs, general mountaineering, you name it. The underboot strap is super rugged, which is perfect for when you're romping around on rocks or other abrasive surfaces. The softshell material makes these gaiters lightweight and breathable, while still keeping them tough and resistant to snow and ice. Definitely a worthy investment if you're looking for a versatile, high quality gaiter.

    Fantastic Gaiter

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I LOVE these gaiters. I have a size M and they're just right for me. I wear a size 9 shoe and regular size legs. I haven't found a better set of gaiters yet. I like the adjustable stirrup and the tight fit. I have an older set of Rab gaiters and they have lasted many many snowshoeing trips. When friends ask what gaiters I recommend, I always point them to these.

Hi, could you help me with size choosing?

Im 5 10' tall. I wear size 10.5 ( eur 44.5) shoe My calf is 15.5 inches in circumference.

My leg from the ankle to the knee cap is around 17 inches long.

What size should I get M or L?

I think the Mediums would work fine with those Hanwag Tatra shoe, but if they don't we can always exchange them for the larger size with free return shipping. But in my opinion the mediums will fit a 10.5 shoe nice and snug.

I am a 5'6" female, with decent sized calves and a Women's size 8.5-9 boot (usually backcountry ski boot). Would a medium be too big for me? Most sizing charts available with other brands matched me with a medium, but there is no chart available here.
