If you're looking for a board that's stable enough to practice yoga on, quick enough to cruise across your local lake, and nimble enough to be a blast in surf, look no further than the POP Paddleboards Throwback Stand-UP Paddleboard. With a classic cruiser shape, rounded tail, and medium rocker profile, the Throwback is a do-anything specialist. The 2+1 thruster fin setup is a good way to go if you're planning on surfing knee-high waves, butthe system is adjustable so you can remove the two side fins and roll with a single center fin setup when you want the board to track better over open water.
Like all POP boards, the Throwback features a Nature Tech vacuum packed construction. This construction process vacuum seals a bamboo veneer around fiberglass laminates and a high-density foam core, which eliminates excess air between the sandwiched layers. This technique creates a light and durable board that effectively puts the handle on rocky coastlines, paddle dings, and SUP yoga sessions. POP even threw a deep-set center handle on the board, so you can easily carry the board from the car to the beach with just one hand.

Updated Review, NOT Built to Last!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Update to my earlier review...I got the board in mid June, and by early September, the traction pad started peeling up around the handle of the board. I contacted customer service at POP. After seeing the photos of the adhesive failing, they said it's "rare and unfortunate" and instructed me to purchase epoxy online to fix it myself instead of sending something directly.
By early October, the board started to buckle across the center under the spot where I am generally standing. It started out on both sides of the rails, and has now spread across the bottom of the board. It's been used regularly in the river and ocean, but has never been dropped or mishandled. It has been maintained and stored properly indoors.
After reaching out to the warranty department at POP, I received NO response for several weeks. I finally got a response after contacting them again, saying this was not a manufacturing issue, but requesting more photos to diagnose the problem. I replied back with multiple photos, but I have NOT received a response after more than a month.
SO disappointed with the current state of the board! POOR quality did not stand up to wear and tear of regular use! Pop touts a dedication to customer service, yet fails to even respond to when there is an issue?!.
Additionally, POP apparently shared my information with a 3rd party marketing company. This 3rd party was hacked, and I received a fake response to my warranty request, which I originally sent to POP directly (I got another email from this third party confirming they were hacked)! Thanks for the added virus and headache!!! AVOID this board/ manufacturer if you are shopping for a new sup! NOT worth the added hassle. Personally, I am looking elsewhere for a second board.
Great board, great service!
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I received my Pop Paddleboard today and I am very impressed. Not only is this one of the best looking boards I've ever seen, but the workmanship is first-rate. I was a little nervous about shipping, but it arrived in perfect condition with plenty of protection. In fact, Backcountry will even assign you a case manager to ensure that the board arrives intact and to take care of any other needs you may have. I should note that I had the opportunity to speak with a Pop representative who went above and beyond to set me up with the right paddle. It was a great experience working with Backcountry and Pop and I can safely say that they have a lifelong customer!
