Thermal Tight

The extremely versatile Pearl Izumi Thermal Tight may be an under-considered option for cold and wet weather riding, but it has more than earned our attention. Using Pearl Izumi’s Thermal fleece for warmth and next-to-skin comfort, and PI Dry technology to shed water from passing storms and group-ride wheel-spray, the Thermal Tight is very much like it’s winter apparel siblings. Where it parts ways and enhances its utility is in its bib-less design and by chucking the chamois. In essence, the Thermal Tight is a shell pant that can fit over most other cycling bottoms or thin casual pants for winter training or commuting. However, Pearl Izumi does maintain an impeccable fit to reduce drag and fabric bunching as you pedal. And a zipper-less calf further enhances that fit and reduces chafing from the zippers of old.

Nice, not without their flaws.

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I picked these up to replace the 16 year old PI tights that are getting a little ragged and was disappointed to see that the quality and features of my old pair are gone. My old pair was made in the USA, had ankle zippers, a small pocket and a drawstring at the waist. I'm mostly bummed to see the loss of the drawstring as saggy britches can be incredibly annoying. Kind of a bummer to see so many corners cut on a piece at this price level. There really aren't any features to rave about, the material is fleece lined and stretches well. Luckily they stay up ok but it would still be nice to have a way to cinch the waist if needed. On the positive side the tights are fairly warm and comfortable. I've worn them on rides that dipped into the 20's and was comfortable but any colder and I'd be reaching for the AmFibs. These are great lightweight options for 32-50° rides where you don't want a lot of bulk.
