Not the quality I would expect

I've prefered Pearl Izumi shorts for years, that's why I spent the money on these, which I promptly returned. The pad seems to be of good quality and size seems right on for my 6'2" 155lbs body. 30 inch waist. But 1st thing I noticed was the quality of the fabric.....it seems thin and not durable, but what really caught my eye was the was the leg opening to the shorts....I would have expected the ends to be rolled back and double stitched...not just a raw fabric edge....how can this last with use?? and the elastic...NONE, but some sort of bonded silicone grippy stuff...just low quality from the get go..I had to return these..now I'll have to find a new brand of short to like. Pearl Izum is no more for me.

Male: 5'8", 180#, Pro Size L. Lower waist and non-visible waistband, but waist remained up for me with a normal 2-3 times hiking each 75mi. (varied topo). Comfortable/supportive legs/seat. Pad began forming during 2 rides. Reviews from respected CC riders caused reasonable questions, but glad I rode them and will like them. Recommending Pearl Pro. - j 7/5/22 ~1,500 miles in and on. Remains comfortable and waist remains up. Continue recommending Pearl Pro. - j

Not for everybody

For my part, I think these are the among the best shorts I've ever owned. I snapped up a second pair with the deep discount CC is offering to clear these out now that the 2022's are in stock. Per the title, I think you'll either absolutely love or completely hate these shorts, no in-between ... let me explain why. Why I really like them: These shorts fit low on the waist which is +++ for me - there are a lot of riding shorts that come up to or above my navel which absolutely drives me crazy. The single piece pad is ample but not bulky, making it perfect for longer road rides and mountain biking. The thigh fit is tight, almost compression-like (which eases over a break-in period), with a low calf fit/length and 2" of grip which keeps the chamois in place and the leg from riding up, especially with in conjunction with my PI knee guards. There is also no bottom seam which keeps the shorts fitting snug all the down. Finally, the quality of the lycra is on a completely different(higher) level vs. everybody else's top end short - it looks and feels extraordinary. Why you might not like: They are definitely designed for a fit rider. If you're below 6'2" riding an XL, under 5'8" riding a L, or XXL at any height, I'd wager you're probably not going to like them. If youre long-waisted, you may also find these shorts fit too low on the hips due to to the low cut. Similarly, if you have extra "junk in the trunk", it will only make matters worse by riding down low in the back for that classic plumber exposed butt crack look while pushing out your gut up and out from underneath - no fun. My assumption is the '22's will be cut higher on the waist due the very mixed reviews I've seen about the '21's low cut, so may be worth the extra $50 vs the sale price if you're not a bib guy. Tim

These shorts are not like previous models of Pearl Izumi Pros. The waist rides very low to the point of showing off a bit too much if your jersey doesn't cover up. Bought two pairs and I'm not sure if it's the new design of the waist band but it just doesn't hold around the waist. I've never ridden with a pair other than PI Pro's, so I guess after dropping $250, I'll need to look at a new brand. Unfortunate.

very good quality shorts

These are great "all day" shorts. They have very clean detailing, grippy cuffs, good weight fabric that's neither too constricting nor too flimsy. The grippy cuffs can make getting them on a little tricky, but once in place, they're about as comfortable as you'll find. The chamois is a little thicker than other shorts, but seems to wick well and stay comfortable for several hour rides.

New design doesn't work for me

I've been wearing Pearl Izumi Pro shorts for the past 8 or 10 years. They've always fit me perfectly. However, this new design is terrible... at least as far as I'm concerned. I am 5'11" and weigh 195, so I ordered the XL. The problem for me was that the waist is cut very low in the back. As soon as I got on my bike, the waistband, such as it is, started hiking down embarrassingly low on my butt. I had to keep pulling it back up, which is not what any sentient cyclist wants to do while riding. Can't believe PI messed up on the new design so badly. Now I have to find another company to get my shorts from!

The shorts are terrible. The waistband is completely useless and they are impossible to keep up. Complete rip-off.

Very Good and Comfortable

The XL is a bit too large and will try to L to see if it fits better. The shorts don't slip and also don't curl under by belly. Feels really good but need to make sure I get the right fit.
