Shield your feet.
Made from a super durable blend of polyurethane and nylon, the Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Thermal Toe Covers ensure that your feet remain protected regardless of how much use they receive. The tough Kevlar underside resists tearing and makes them durable enough for both the road and trail.
Durability doesn’t mean much without function, so Izumi designed the Thermal toe covers to slip on easily and to stay in place. Pearl Izumi's Power Band closure system uses two hook-and-loop straps in order to ensure a secure, next-to-shoe fit. The Power Bands also make taking the covers off while pedaling a simple affair.
Pearl used its P.R.O. Softshell material for the uppers of the covers. The material is wind- and water-repellent, which means that it blocks headwind while also preventing wheel spray from reaching your shoes. As a result, you stay comfortable for the whole ride, not just the first half. Finishing off the construction, Izumi added reflective accents that increase your visibility to motorists in low-light conditions.
The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Thermal Toe Covers are available in the color Black and in the sizes Small/Medium and Large/X-large.
I havent had a chance to use these yet (not cold enough) but I have initial impressions, and they look nice. They seem to be fitting pretty well, and I can notice a warmth difference. I am looking forward to trying them out!
Pearl Izumi PRO Thermal Toe Covers.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 46 shoe
These are the best I've used, not from the warmth standpoint ,but from fit. Very well fitted and Elastic secures to your shoe very well. Almost all my winter gear is Pearl Izumi. I did not have an issue with air ballooning, but I wear these over a already bulky winter biking shoe for additional warmth
A couple of early morning rides in May where our start temp hovered around 5c. You know the temp is going up so my neoprene booties are too much and also they aren't gonna fit In a jersey pocket easily. Shoe covers worked perfect
Not what I wanted
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
I had the PI Elite warmers for a few years and when they finally developed a hole in the bottom I thought I'd try the Pro level warmers to see if they were better made or, well just better.
They are different than I thought. First off my PI elite warmers and these are the same size but these are bigger. They do cover more of the foot, they come up higher on the arch but they are also wider and deeper (top of the foot to the bottom). For me, they are too loose. I dont think they would fall off during a ride but they do wrinkle up and there is just excess material. I wear a size 45.5 / 46 shoe too.
The other part that I wasnt expecting was a velcro fastening tab on the bottom. The part that goes behind the cleat is a velcro fastening tab. It doesnt totally open, it does have an elastic that permanently connects the two sides but you can adjust it. It allowed me to tighten the top part of the warmer but with the excess material it creates strange balloon effect.
Last thing, there is no coverage on the bottom. The warmer just barely wraps around the side of the sole so if you need a large opening to fit your cleats this might work for you. I wanted some coverage as my shoes have a vent on the toe box in the sole that I prefer to cover in cold weather.
So to summarize, these seem to be well made but on the large side. I want a tighter fit and the excess material causes them to be loose fitting. I also want something the covers the sole area of my shoe a little better.
