Bring a map.

At last, you managed to find a day with a clear weather forecast that works for your entire ride crew. Don't wait for a problem to arise; check your tires, fill extra bottles, and pack your jersey pockets full of snacks, then hit the road in the Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Escape Bib Short. A full day of turning the pedals past rolling farm fields, quiet lakes, and wooded countryside awaits, and having a comfortable bib short is key to making sure you enjoy all of it.

Proving its distinction as one of Pearl's top-of-the-line bib shorts, the P.R.O. Escape arrives with a clean silhouette, luxurious feel, and completely redesigned chamois this year. If you prefer fondos and all-day exploration to spending weekends on the race course, the Escape line was made for you. With a focus on pro-level comfort for everyday riders, Pearl redesigned the P.R.O. Escape 1:1 Chamois with a floating top sheet over plush, stretchy foam cushioning to improve freedom of movement and lessen the likelihood of chafing. Other subtle, but impressive touches include raw-edge leg endings and bib uppers, which won't pinch or irritate skin after a full day in the saddle, as well as redesigned P.R.O. Transfer fabric, which blends muscle support with exceptional breathability and softness, wherever your ride takes you.

  • Explore new routes and ride all day long in this bib short
  • Form-fitting cut provides all-day muscle support
  • Redesigned chamois features floating top sheet for comfort
  • Raw-edge hems contribute to short's top-tier aesthetic
  • BioViz reflective accents help you stand out on dim roads

Extremely comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I've owned a ton of different bib shorts over the years from Pearl Izumi and Assos and, for the first time, I can honestly say that Pearl Izumi is on par with Assos for comfort. The new pro escape chamois is hands down the best pad they've ever made and makes for a comfortable ride all day long. The raw cut hems disappear against your skin and the material offers just enough compression to support your muscles without feeling like you're squeezed into a race day bib. If you want a more relaxed bib short for long rides or big training days, these are every bit as comfortable as the S.7 bibs from Assos... with only a marginal amount of additional material weight, but at half the price.

Chamois compresses easily

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Bib fits well and is comfortable, however the chamois is not very dense so it will compress easily and be very uncomfrotable on the sit bones.

Outstandingly Comfortable Material

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

This is the most comfortable material (soft on the skin) I have every experienced -- they feel amazing, and the material is light weight so they are great for hot and humid weather. Very good chamois. My only complaint is the material is a little abrasive on my chest when moving from the hoods to the drops as they come straight over the shoulder down the front as opposed to being slightly offset to the outside. It requires a little coverage on the sensitive parts.

    30 yrs experience

    Soft Shorts!

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I've been riding for over 30 years and these have to be one of, if not the softest shorts I've put on. Not cheap price, but it shouldn't be for this qualify of a short. I will be getting more.

Something about a Pearl - Izumi that is.

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I started out in cycling wearing Pearl Izumi and over the years transitioned to Assos, Castelli and the like. Those are all great products, but I was always a bit disappointed with the associated cost to value. I saw these on sale and decided to pick up two. Suffice to say I've been very pleased with anything from 20 mile rides to a longer 65. Very comfortable chamois with no seams. In some respects felt very similar to Assos. The bib straps are not obtrusive and the fit is great. Not too tight, not too loose. Got to say I'm happy with my purchase and will likely purchase a couple more.

    Go-to bottoms

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: L

When I saw these were on sale, I bought one. After my first ride I was super excited to see that they were still on sale so I bought two more. Now I can wear these three days a week and wear team kits on the other two - but honestly, I prefer these. Fit is good, chamois is good, it's all good. I hope they last a long long time and the apparent quality makes me think they likely will. Love 'em!

    Great for Long rides

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I bought these for long rides on "warm" days in Minnesota. I have used them from 50 to 130 mile rides, and have had them perform exceptionally well. No issues with the shorts, and I am very happy with my purchase. I definitely recommend these bibs to anyone

    Great value

Uncommonly comfortable straps and pad. One of the best bibs around, regardless of price. True to regular PI size.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: large

Chamois is padded but not split into section with variable thickness of padding. I've had some problems with the position of the chamois. Otherwise shorts fit well.

      Great! Will order another soon.

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XL

I wish all websites would make it standard for persons to enter personal physical sizing like in profile to help others with sizing decisions.

      I'm 6'4" 240lbs I wear a size 52 Long coat.

I ordered these in a size XL and they are absolutely perfect! Light, fit snug only where they need to. The shoulder straps are amazing! After putting them on I never thought about them again for the rest of a quick 20 miles.

I read reviews elsewhere that the user questioned the amount of padding?
These have by far the thickest padding of any compression wear I own. Zero hot spots and most importantly ZERO seams where they don't need to be.
      Awesome design.

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

Have had a couple of forty mile rides and these shorts have been comfortable. Pad felt really thick at first but quickly became unnoticeable. 5'9' and 175 with larger thighs and the large fits me really well.

Hey John, I was just curious about the length. I would estimate my build to be similar to yours, but the last large pair of PI shorts I purchased stopped a .5 inch above my knee. I would prefer them to be a little shorter.

      Pearl Delivers Value

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Most cyclists have owned Pearl Izumi at some point, it is probably the most recognized brand in cycling, especially when you are starting out. I had not owned a pair of Pearl Bibs in quite some time but was quite surprised when I got my hands on these bib shorts. Upon feeling the material, the Chamois, and seeing the construction, I decided to buy a pair and give them a chance. Glad that I did. These are some awesome shorts, they offer a great all day in the saddle chamois and breathe really well, they wick sweat effectively, and the straps are amazingly comfortable.
Are there better shorts out there? Yeah, but not anywhere near this price point.
If you have been wearing entry level Pearl, Garneau, or Sugoi shorts and are looking for an upgrade, I would suggest sizing up one size. If you are wearing Castelli, Giordana, Capo or the like, then I would stick with the same size.
These are great shorts at a great price point and I highly recommend them from a bang for the buck standpoint.

      PI Nails Comfort and Value

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

The description Competitive Cyclist provides is accurate . I have ridden PI shorts for over 20 years since they fit regular athletic bodies and they evolve in a good direction ... I trust what I am getting . I have ridden the PRO level product line for about 5 years and these are a nice improvement . Excellent leg grippers , very flat seams on legs and straps . Good compression and soft fabric . Big change in chamois . Same type smooth cover as last year's PRO model , but padding thin in front section and feels right , much thicker under sit bones . The multi layer chamois does move well with the cyclist's motions . I will acquire a few more . I ride about 150 days/year .
