Everyone's peak looks different—calculus final, half-marathon, first 5.10 climb, hike the PCT, pick up the kids on time. The Patagonia Women's R1 Fleece Hooded Pullover can help you cross your own personal finish line comfortably—and it will be there for future accomplishments as well. It's been updated this year with a Polartec Power Grid fabric, which features a raised grid pattern that traps heat. This allowed Patagonia to make the R1 lighter and more breathable than before, while ensuring it keeps you just as warm and still offers the same outstanding stretch and durability. Thumbholes provide your thumbs a place to rest while preventing the sleeves from sneaking up your arms. When the wind kicks up, throw a layer over this hoodie, and never miss a beat as you reach your personal summit.

Versatile and Classic

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

This quickly became one of my favorite layers for the outdoors. I've used it as a base layer on cold days skiing, fleece for running, biking or hiking, and even wear to work with jeans sometimes. It's breathable and warm at the same time, and the hood is great to have in the windy high alpine. The small is slim fitting without being too tight.

The Absolute Best

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

Everything about this hoodie is fantastic. Worn in 30 and in 60 and it's been both warm and cooling. Can't explain much more than that. Hop on the R1 wagon.

Inspired to buy another one after video

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: small

I now own 4 R1s, this last one with a hood. I don't like to layer hoods under ski jackets. But wanted to have one for other purposes. This one fits differently. I have moved to mediums in Patagonia because although I am short, weigh 119 lbs. (5'1") I have hips and breasts. I returned the medium this time for a small. The arms were really long and the length...I could have worn it as a mini dress. The small is also long and I know, people like it so it tucks into pants, etc. but if you have hips, the slim fit can be not so flattering.
I have maintained for a long time that there needs to be a medium petite or something in between the small and medium. I am always surprised when people much taller than me and heavier say they ordered a small or even XS?
I have noticed one of my older ones has started to pill. All in all, I love my R1s and insisted my husband get one. On sale, this is especially a great buy and can go anywhere. The black is even a little dressier looking.

Warmth you need to layer up

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: L

Bought this for skiing because it’s watmer than a micro fleece. Hood is great too.
Good quality.’I got a large which is a bit too long (I am 5’9) and slim fit (I am chunky, fits ok but not loose). Length keeps your back and hips covered.
Now with spring also wearing it to walk or hike around.
Overall a good purchase with lots of possibilities for use.

Staple for cold weather activities

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

LOVE THIS! Comfortable and fits well over baselayer. Perfect for keeping warm and dry during winter activities. I wear this for both downhill skiing and winter hiking. Would absolutely recommend and buy again.

Patagonia R1 fleece hooded pullover

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I wear this vest everywhere!
The best layer for any activity! Surprisingly warm for how thing the material is. Hiking or skiing, this vest is the perfect layer for a chillier day in the mountains!

Perfect multipurpose pullover

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

This hooded pullover has quickly made it to the top of my indispensable list! I keep it in my gym bag for chilly runs. The super long zipper makes ventilation easy if you get a little warm. The zippered pocket holds my iPhone securely. The fit is trim but not tight, construction is typical high standard Patagonia quality and the color (beryl green) is beautiful. It’s comfortable and flattering. Best winter purchase so far!

I liked mine so much!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I really liked the R1 hoody I had, so I picked one up for my girlfriend! This is what I had to say about the R1:
"From the moment I picked it up and put it on, I haven been able to take it off.! I wear it to bed, I wear it to school and work, i wear it climbing, i wear it skiing, its the ultimate midlayer!
Its super warm for the weight thanks to the square grid , and i love the slim fit. It really fills in the gaps of the active wardrobe, and Il never take it off!"

One of her favorites

From the words of my girlfriend: Great top for active outdoor activities in cooler weather. Nice loose fit and has room for a layer underneath. Nice high quality and will last. I've used it for running and as a layer under a hardshell.

    Love it!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

This thing is so freaking comfortable! And warm! Absolutely love it! Initially purchased to add to my kit for cold nights on the AT but found myself throwing this on over a tank for day hikes. On particularly cold windy days, I've just put a Montbell Tachyon Parka on underneath it and I'm incredibly warm and toasty.

    I thought it ran big?

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small

I almost always wear small in most brands including Patagonia. I am 5'6" 123lbs, climber's build. I ordered a small and it was very loose on the arms and through the body and hips! Hung completely off my body! I was looking for a snug fit. I am returning it and getting the XS.

Great base layer or light jacket

Perfect layering jacket for cold winter days, or nice for a cool fall/spring day.

      A Baselayer That Breathes!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: Small

I'm in love with my R1 and glad I opted for the hood! This is definitely more of a technical piece than a casual piece, however I think it can be worn both ways...the zipper reaches almost halfway down the front of the fleece, which is great for venting when your body temp spikes. The hood, when fully zipped, acts as a balaclava -perfect for snuggling into my sleeping bag on chilly nights as it replaces the need for a beanie for extra warmth. Thumbholes are always a nice addition to activewear, and a generous zippered chest pocket lets me stash small necessities.

Awesome layering piece. Thanks to the Polartec Power Grid, this fleece is lightweight and the definition of breathable. It's powerless against wind, so be prepared and have something to throw on over top when the gusts pick up. Slim fit it is!

      Best Gift Ever

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs small

I got this as a gift for my fiancee to round out her backcountry ski and climbing layering setup. She had been looking at an R1 for a while, so I finally pulled the trigger and snagged her one. Her only feedback was that the fit is a little on the smaller side. With this, I sized up to the Medium (she is 5'8''/Athletic) and it worked out perfect!

      Weird hood

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: Small

Instant favorite, only gripe is the hood leaves a tiny gap for your eyes. It's fine for skiing but kind of eliminates the possibility for wearing casually too. But it's still awesome, love the deep zipper. Normally wear xs in Patagonia, the small on this piece fits better.

      Full zip action

Everyone is envious of this fleece. Excellent for touring. Keeps me warm yet dry when working up a sweat. The hood stays tight and keeps my ears warm when the wind starts ripping. When i am sweating to death the chest zip is unbelievably low and allows air to cool you down. Love the color and fit. A little higher neck to duck my chin into when im too nippy. Favorite new layer!

        Full zip action

        Too tight in the shoulders

I really love the idea and the feel of the R1 but even sizing up to a medium, my climber shoulders felt constricted and armpits pinched when I moved my arms about.

          Great product bad sizing

          • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
          • Fit: Runs small
          • Size Bought: M

The medium was so tight there is no extra room for layering and the large was really big. I think the design would fit someone w an hour glass shape. I have athletic build body with thick waist (31 in). This is my 3rd attempt for Patagonia brand outfits and I had to return all. I guess Patagonia is just not for me.

          Great baselayer

This was given as a a gift but I was provided feedback. Patagonia is always a win. The zipper length is a bit awkward but it makes it quite easy to take off after a long day on the slopes. It's very lightweight but provides great warmth as a base layer or light jacket during fall/spring. The recipient has average to long arm lengths and find no issues with the arms being too short as others have reviewed, in fact there's a little excess.

Slim Fit: Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

Relaxed Fit: Drapes loosely on the body.
            How to Measure:
Measurements refer to body size, not garment dimensions. For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Inseam will vary depending on style; when lengths are offered, "short" is 30, "regular" is 32 and "long" is 33. Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
