Why We Like The Micro Puff Insulated Jacket

The best warmth-to-weight jacket Patagonia has ever created, the Women's Micro Puff Insulated Jacket perfectly blends a super-lightweight shell with soft, compressible PlumaFill insulation to make it both an ideal insulating layer and a cozy outer layer. Windproof and water-resistant, the lightweight Pertex Quantum shell keeps us protected from the elements as we make our way down the mountain, while PlumaFill insulation maintains its heat-trapping loft, even after getting wet and abused through seasons of use. Its innovative quilting construction complements the insulation by stabilizing and maximizing the loft of the down-like PlumaFill strands with minimal stitching, and the center-front zipper has a wicking interior storm flap and zipper garage at the chin for baby-soft comfort and minimal chafing. Add on the stowaway left-hand pocket, and this jacket is guaranteed to be our go-to for ambitious outdoor excursions and routine trips around town alike.

  • Insanely lightweight and warm insulated jacket for the outdoors
  • Durable and water-resistant Pertex Quantum holds up to abuse
  • Down-like PlumaFill insulation is warm, packable, and hydrophobic
  • Quilted structure stabilizes loft and enhances its efficiency
  • Dual hand pockets store essentials; one stows the jacket when packed

Great jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I am usually between a XS and S. 5’3” 117 lbs. This jacket I went with a Small and it’s perfect. I can throw it over a long sleeve and vest for a great wind blocker and insulating layer. Or just by its self over a base layer. It’s so lightweight and yet so warm. The feather grey color goes with everything. I can’t wait to take this touring as I think it will be the perfect puffy that fits under a shell when needed.

Very thin and light, but poor cut/design

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: L

This jacket was surprisingly thin and light out of the box. I can’t speak to the warmth since I never wore it outside before choosing to return it. I’m 5’8”, and 160 lbs, and the large was rather snug around the hips for base layer considerations. The sleeves were also too long, and that’s not usually a problem I run into. But the neck is what made me decide to send it back. I have a long neck, and yet the zipper was right up under my chin, digging in more than I would be able to stand. Yeah, I could leave it unzipped a bit, but for the price my expectations are higher. I wanted to like it, but back it goes.

I'm sorry to hear this jacket didn't work out! Please feel free to reach out to a Gearhead to help you find a more suitable jacket that fits your needs.

Neck Design Flaw - Unwearable

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: S

The neck is about an inch too long! The collar rubs the skin off of your chin. It also will not fold down. I'm 5'8" 120 lbs and I do not have a short neck! It's unwearable. I can only imagine what Patagonia puts into their designs. Hard to imagine this quality control oversight getting to market. How this got missed is a wonder. Too bad, it's a cute jacket. Collar flaw is an absolute deal breaker. Returned.

Hi Samantha!

I’m so sorry to hear the jacket wasn’t what you expected!

Bunches at the chest

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I wanted to like this jacket but I have two problems with it. It's very loud when you're moving around, plasticky sounding, and when fully zipped it protrudes at the chest. Maybe it would work for a well-endowed lady.

Very warm for the weight, sizing is off

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: S

I like the fact this jacket is very warm for the weight. I usually only wear a regular T-shirt with no additional baselayer under this jacket in a 40s degree weather.
BUT, the sizing feels off. I am usually an XS consistently in Patagonia. But I have to size up to S for this jacket. It feels tighter at the bottom.
Even with the S, there is a lot of materials (i.e. room) in the front, but not as much in the back creating a tight appearance. The jacket already looks big on me in the shoulder and upper arm area. I'm keeping it anyway but maybe make the cut more straight in the next generation or add a string to make it more adjustable at the bottom.

Excellent Jacket - Period

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: L

Actually XMAS present for my wife. Since then she has worn it non-stop - hiking, walking with a weight vest, shopping, running errands, and everything in-between.
She likes the fit. Bought up 1 size to have room for a sweater in colder temps.
Thanks, Patagonia/ Back Country. Perfect gift.

So. Freakin. Awesome.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

When they describe this as insanely lightweight they are NOT kidding!! I was so shocked when I got it at how light it was, and the warmth you get for the weight is crazy. I wear a Patagonia wind shell over it on days with harsher weather and i'm always toasty even in the Utah cold. Would highly recommend!

Love it

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I'm really excited for how versatile this jacket is. I've worn it as a stand alone piece for running errands, walking the pup, some light touring on a moderately warm day (think temperatures in the 30s) and as a layering piece for inbound resort play when the temperatures were in the mid teens. It holds up to the challenge, keeps me warm, never feels bulky under a shell and is just a great addition. I love how lightweight it is as well, as it will likely replace my down jacket for backpacking adventures next summer. I am a bit, um, gifted in the chest area naturally (32DDD) so I had to opt into an XL to get it to zip comfortably on me. It's a touch baggy in other areas of my body, but overall happy with the fit and that it zips up! Ladies, if you have a larger chest, you understand this pain.

Lightweight and Toasty~

This is a great overall jacket for the cold Fall/Winter breeze that's coming through Utah right now. It's super lightweight which make it easy to travel with and I really like the Grey color on me. I would recommend this jacket for someone who is looking for a good casual jacket for not too snowy weather but good for the cold winds. Can't wait to wear this jacket everyday! Pray for some snowwww!

Almost perfect

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: xs

Was very excited to put this jacket on until - I zipped it all the way up. It felt like I was being choked by the extremely high neck line and the zipper felt a wee bit scratchy there. I do have a somewhat long neck and this was too constricting. This was going to be used in my Gortex shell for snowboarding.

Light weight, well insulated

Bought this item for mother's day.. it's super light and well insulated. The stitching might be an issue if you're going hardcore without an outside shell, but for normal midlayer use, should be perfect.

    Great warmth for weight

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I purchased a medium in arrow red for my mother. This jacket fits great and is incredibly light. Perfect by itself or layered under another jacket or over a pullover. At around 7 ounces it's like you're not even wearing a jacket. Water resistance makes it a very versatile layer.

    Warmest mid layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

Been wearing this as mid layer for skiing and hiking around 20F weather and as a main jacket for 30F with some sweaters under. It's so light but incredibly warm. I sized up thinking I'd wear many layers under, but turns out the jacket itself kept me so warm that I never had to wear a lot of layers with it. I wish I bought my regular size.

No lining, so tiny holes everywhere!

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size

I have a lot of Patagonia, and this isn't one of the finer items. I LOVE the idea of this jacket, but the execution is poor.

Mostly, there is no lining at all, so every single stitch has essentially a tiny hole. And these are holes that are big enough to see through when you hold it up to the light. If this jacket had a lining, it would be perfect, but those holes are something really weird.
Also fit a bit large in shoulders, small in hips.

    Sister won't take it off

Bought this for my sister, its now her go to jacket!

      Perfect for hiking and skiing!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: small

This is the perfect amount of insulation for skiing and hiking on cold, cold days. If it's too warm outside, I'll work up a sweat in this. But, if it's cold, it's perfect.

According to the size chart, the sizing is spot on for me in size small. But considering that I'm more of a medium sized person, I'd say this runs bigger than other brands. I'm a shmedium, but usually more of a medium. The small is a good fit for me.

      Perfect for hiking and skiing!

I absolutely love your (personal) sizing of "shmedium". I believe that is what my mom is

      Solid jacket

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

This jacket is such a good combo of being lightweight and pack-able, but also keeps you warm. It packs into it's own pocket and is about the size of a water bottle when packed down. Super lightweight packing it and wearing it but still gives you comfort and warmth, easy to move/hike in and an all around solid jacket. Solid piece for an outer layer or being the only layer you have on, it'll keep the cold out.

Measurements refer to body size, not garment dimensions. For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Inseam will vary depending on style; when lengths are offered, "short" is 30, "regular" is 32 and "long" is 33. Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
