Houdini Jacket

For practically weightless weather protection on your next run, hike, or climb, bring along the Patagonia Houdini Jacket. It's easy to pack down and throw in pack, a pocket, or on a harness, and keeps you protected from whipping alpine winds and light precipitation. Now made with a completely recycled nylon ripstop that blocks the wind at an ultralight weight, this jacket also features a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating that'll shed light rain, moderate snow, and whatever mild precipitation you can manage to find in the mountains. It's got an adjustable hood that gives you snug protection against the wind with just a single pull, and a chest pocket for quick gear storage that also doubles as a stuff sack when the weather calms down. Quick ventilation comes to you by way of a full front zipper, while the reflective logo patch ensures visibility when you're sneaking in a sunset run after work.

  • Ultralight and packable shell for windy days in the mountains
  • Recycled nylon ripstop blocks the wind on exposed peaks and cliffs
  • DWR coating sheds light rain when you're hiking in drizzly weather
  • Chest pocket doubles as a stuff sack with a handy carabiner loop
  • Hood adjusts with one pull to give you quick protection
  • Full front zipper alllows for custom ventilation
  • Drawcord hem prevents updrafts while climbing
  • Reflective logo boosts your visibility on nighttime runs

I love this jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Size Bought: Medium

I bought this jacket a couple months ago and LOVE it! It's super convenient (and small) to throw in your purse or an extra bag, so you are always prepared. I always get complaints when I wear it. I get even more compliments when I pull it out of my tiny purse, to where when it's raining or even provide a bit of warmth when I'm in a cold restaurant. It is pretty light and perfect for NC summers.

Seems pointless until you own it

Why do you want a tissue paper jacket, you might ask, which is why you are reading this review. I thought it was dumb but everyone loved them so I got one. I use it primarily for trail running and love it. It is an amazing jacket for descending! I would be the perfect temperature on the way up, and until this jacket, I was always a little cold descending, but not anymore. Would totally recommend for any situation where you're descending, or will encounter very misty and windy conditions. I've never brought with me and not had it be worth it.

I got the sherbet and vjosa and I kept the Vjosa because it looked better with my colors (blonde, fair, yellow-toned).

Absolutely Worth It

This is the perfect little jacket for any windy occasion! I originally bought it for running and hiking but I have used it for so much more. It is nice when you are by a lake and it gets windy, or just walking around town. This little jacket does great to fend off wind and keep you feeling warmer no matter what you are doing. It is also a nice bonus that it packs up so small! The Rain Fern Multi/Classic Navy is super cute, and I have received lots of compliments on it.

The jacket fit me great and true to size. I got my regular size and it has room to layer under it. The material is very thin but it performs well. The only pocket is the chest one, which is my only down fall to this jacket. I wish it had hand pockets.

Was too small around the hip for me

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

Nicely made, nice fabric - just did fit me. Is a more slim fit and I'm a more curvy gal. :)

More like a cape than a Jacket

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

It's perfect for raining weathers like Costa Rica's. The material is more like a cape than a Jacket. This means probably won't work on cold weathers or at night.

Packs up so small!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I needed a wind breaker. That's it. Something that I can leave in my pack all the time so it needed to be small. This is it! I bought a medium though I am normally a small so that it could fit over layers. It packs up so small and yet offered the protection I want. Wish it had a side pocket but that is probably a compromise I have make to keep it small.

Game Changer

  • Fit: Runs large

Here's a photo of this jacket during a backpacking trip in the Uinta Wilderness Forest last month! It was really handy during periods of high wind as we climbed ridges and increased in elevation. The lightweight structure and breathabilty makes this a perfect active jacket. Check out my more detailed review below!

I've been wearing this as a shell over the Patagonia capilene base layer when working as a bike messenger on wintry days. That combo is perfect for staying warm without getting too sweaty, which is a really hard balance to find. Feels so thin, but is incredibly effective. Packs up really small so I can keep it in my bag when not in use without taking up space. The only downside is the lack of front pockets (only has a small, zippered breast pocket) but it's the most functional windbreaker I have had in every other aspect, so whatever. The black is dark and sleek and looks very nice. Bought a medium and have room for layers underneath without looking/feeling bulky.

Easy pack-able jacket

This jacket is awesome for any outdoor activity. If it randomly gets windy or chilly, this thing fits anywhere and you can just pop it out and put it on. Awesome riding jacket and can fit in your pocket.

    Great top

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this jacket for my wife. She said that he jacket fits great when wearing it, and packs up super small when she is not using it. It isnt as waterproof as a rain coat, but keeps wind and light rain away. She carries it whenever there is a chance that i'll end up slightly cold during a run/bike.

    a classic

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

This lightweight windbreaker from Patagonia is a total staple in any outdoor lover's closet. It's comfortable, packs down unbelievably small (you don't even notice it when it's clipped to your harness), and comes in a large range of colors so you can stand out in the backcountry. There's literally no reason to leave this thing at home. Plus, it's water resistant if you happen to accidentally get caught in a light rainstorm on your way down the trail.

Unbelievably light fabric! Barely feels like its there at all. Good initial protection from the elements, but its the pack size that really makes it amazing. The perfect light shell for anyone.

    BEST Jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this for my aunt as a gift, because I already have one and I love it. It's the best jacket for summer adventures in the mountains. It packs up super small and it's perfect as a backup jacket in case there's wind or light rain!

    YAS!

This is the perfect windbreaker for any activity. I've been using just a regular rain jacket for most trail running and biking but it doesn't offer the breath-ability and lightweight material that the houdini does. I finally bit the bullet and decided to see what all the hype was about. SO WORTH IT. it's light... it's breathable... you barely even notice you have it on! It keeps that chilly wind off of you on those speedy downhills and makes a huge difference. I've loved it! I wear a size small across the board and this was no exception. fit me true to size! has a little more length to it than a lot of lightweight windbreakers out there which is really nice. keeps your lower back covered when you are leaning over a bike and gives you more wind protection.

    Perfect for summer hikes

This jacket is super, SUPER thin, but I think that's perfect for summer hikes. Wore it on a 14 mile out and back up Mount Timpanogos, which is known for being windy at the saddle, and it kept me warm. Packs up super tiny. Got the purple color and love it.

    Perfect for summer hikes

    Awesome jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I pack this jacket anytime I'm going on a hike or long run. Packs small and lightweight, takes the edge off the wind and will keep a small amount of water off. It does dry quickly if you get caught in heavier rain, as I have a few times.

What size did you get? Thanks!

    Versatile Jacket

Incredibly lightweight and effective. Packs so small you’ll forget it’s in your pack. I highly recommend this jacket

      Great Jacket for Everything

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great lightweight jacket for just about everything! I always keep it close in case i need a little extra protection from either wind, sun, or even light rain (although it is not waterproof) . Perfect for anything on the trail!

Size Up if you have hips

This is a great jacket - perfect for traveling, running and hiking. I bough this jacket for my mom for Mother's Day and had to return it for a larger size because Patagonia is made for athletic / straight women. The Large fit my mom through the arms and shoulders and stomach but was too tight at the waist. If you are curvy and have a bit of a booty - size up!

She is loving her XL size and loves the color.
