Better Sweater Fleece Jacket

As its name suggests, the Patagonia Men's Better Sweater Fleece Jacket is no ordinary sweater. Equal parts technical and urban-friendly, the Better Sweater is constructed with a sweater-knit fleece that provides cozy warmth and wicks away moisture, so you're able to to take to to the hills or the city. Additionally, the bluesign approved fleece material is dyed with a low-impact process that ultimately reduces the use of dye stuffs, energy, and water. Not to mention, the stitching is Fair Trade Certified, so you can feel good about feeling, well, good. The raglan sleeves provide unimpeded mobility, and the flatlock seams assure chafe-free comfort. A bevvy of pockets keeps all of your necessities close at hand, and the stand-up collar doubles down on your protection when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Good quality, but mind the fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Medium

The product is excelent as all Patagonia stuffs. The only problem was the fit of the sweater. I knew it was regular fit but is too baggy for me. Its not what i was looking for.

Lives up to the name

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I gave this as a gift to my fiance and he loves it. Here's what he had to say:

"Warm, cozy, and durable. Looks great and has the awesome fit I’ve come to expect from Patagonia. I’m 5’9” and 160 lbs, and the size small fits me perfectly."

It’s heavy, but...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Xxl

It’s warm. It’s a little tight to get on and off. However, that’s what you want when your are trying to get another layer over the top. It’s not meant to be a windbreaker. My rain jackets work really well with these sleeves and trunk. And it is warm. I also like the high neck and zipper. It’s nice to start a hike all zipped up, and have the option to vent as you generate a higher heart rate.

The best Jacket/Sweater

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I love this Jacket because it feels soft as a sweater and also don´t let the wind pass through it.

You need something warm inside

Not like my another fleece jacket from Columbia, this one cannot stop cold air from penetrating through. I am wondering how this can be used for outdoor activities.

    Not warm, looks nice

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: L

I really love the way this jacket looks, and it is very soft inside, but it depressingly underperforms in the warmth department. It is significantly less warm than a Patagonia Synchilla or Arcteryx Delta AR. I have had it for over a year and keep throwing it on because it's a very nice looking jacket with Patagonia's high standard quality of production and soft interior. Good for around the house or anything above 55°F as the sleeves are too tight to accommodate much layering underneath. You're better off spending your money on a decent wool sweater if you want to look nice, or one of the hundreds of other 200wt fleeces on the market if you want fleece.

I'm 6' 175lbs with athletic build and the large fit perfectly. A little baggy/square in the torso but that is standard for Patagonia cut. Not nearly as baggy as Synchilla.

    Great fleece

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Nothing to complaint, fabric is really good, a lot of options regarding color, and it will keep you warm,

Gave as gift but have feedback

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

This was a great sweater, my friend really liked it.

    Awesome

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

This jacket runs true to size and is the perfect amount of warmth.

    Ehhh

Decent sweater jacket, however, the sleeves are extremely tight. If you’re wearing a long sleeve, good luck getting the jacket on and off.

I’d agree. 6’5’’, 240 lbs. Great once it’s on, but can be a few moments squaring everything away.

      Color Difference

I purchased the shadow blue color, but upon seeing the product, the color is quite different that what is shown in the picture. I even checked twice if I had made any mistake in buying the color, but upon review, I did purchase the right product and the right product was received by me.

        Looks great, lasts long

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Large

My husband just retired his 5 year old Better Sweater zip up and upgraded to this one with the chest pocket. It's a nice warm fleece, that lasts forever and you can wear on a hike or to work. Highly recommend!

        Great Pullover

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Large

I purchased the pullover for myself because I liked it. This pullover is warm and I like the navy blue color. I am not a huge fan of the collar, it can be itchy at times. It does fit true to size. This is a wonderful product and would make a great gift as well.

Dad finally has a nice daily fleece!

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought this for my pops for Christmas and I am so happy to be giving him something that is high quality and comfortable. I don't feel like I need to write a massive review because so many people have such great things to say about this fleece! I agree.. it's fantastic!

        Great Sweater.

Nice jacket. Had one for a while.. gained some weight. Loved it so much I got the same style and color in a bigger size. Not terribly warm but good on fall/spring days.

          Very Happy

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times
          • Fit: True to size
          • Size Bought: L

I am usually between a large and XL (most shirts and sweaters are XL) but the Large was the way to go on this one. Fits perfectly. Not too tight in the chest or shoulders.

          Great About Town Fleece

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
          • Fit: True to size
          • Size Bought: Large

Solid jacket keeps me warm in cooler temperatures, wind passes right through it so not great on windy days. While I've put true to size in the fit, that pertains to the trunk, this jacket tends to run pretty small in the arms with it not leaving a whole lots of room for layers underneath. That said I pretty much only use this jacket when I'm going out around town and don't have the need to layer at those times. The jacket looks great, clean cut and depending on the color selected fairly classy, I would have no issue where this to a nice evening out.

          Not comfortable

          • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
          • Fit: True to size
          • Size Bought: Large

Looks good but not very comfortable. Sleeves are tight and I’m not a big guy. It’s tiresome to wear. Also there’s a big seam down the sleeves. They don’t sew them flat like Patagonia of past. I have an older one which is very comfortable but not this.
