Better Sweater Fleece Jacket

When the leaves start to fall and the temperatures begin to take a dive, it's important to have a trusty fleece to get you through the cold months. The Patagonia Better Sweater Fleece Jacket is a cozy everyday fleece that'll join you on autumn hikes, aprés ski sessions, and all of your everyday activities. From the office to the mountains, this Patagonia staple keeps you toasty warm thanks to its soft inner fleece, which now features an entirely recycled construction. The sweater-like outer fabric provides a clean and casual look, and the full-zip design lets you vent how you need to if you start to warm up throughout the day. This full-zip jacket also offers more storage than the pullover Better Sweater, with two zippered hand pockets and a convenient chest pocket to keep your everyday essentials securely tucked away.

  • Classic Patagonia fleece to keep you warm through fall and winter
  • Recycled polyester fleece offers super toasty warmth in cold weather
  • Raglan style sleeves provide easy mobility on chilly day hikes
  • Zippered pockets keep your everyday items safely stashed
  • Flat seam construction helps prevent chafing as you move
  • Full-zip design makes it easy to ventilate and change up layers
  • Stretchy cuffs and hem maintain their shape over time
  • Offset shoulder seams create more comfort under backpack straps

Awesome classic look

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Quite warm as long as you have a wind resistant layer. This fleece is built like a knitted sweater so it's only major downfall is that wind cuts straight through. The look and cut is a combo of classic and athletic and it's become a common jest that the better sweater is the new white coat because so many medical residency programs buy these for their residents (looks great with a dress shirt and tie).

Wrist cuffs are huge.

  • Size Bought: Large

The elastic wrist cuffs do not constrict the fabric at all. It is as if this was given to a big person who rolled up the sleeves to his biceps permanently stretching out the cuffs so that they will never be at your wrist. Too annoying to wear.

I noticed this seems to be how the company is now making the Better Sweater. I have the hoody version and one of the lightweight versions and the wrist cuffs are big on both. My other Patagonia jackets have smaller wrist cuffs. It's kind of odd

Better Sweater Fleece Jkt

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Medium

I purchased this jacket because of styling. However because of the type fabric, it is very difficult to put on and take off since it does not have a smooth inside liner. I regret purchasing and would not recommend. I am told after use that pilling is an issue.

Very Warm Sweater

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I have been very pleased with this sweater. It's soft, comfortable, and very, very warm. The fit is perfect. I may buy another one in a different color. It has been my "go to" sweater since I got it. Works well as an under layer with a gortex jacket in temperatures as low as 45 degrees.

Tight Fit or Athletic Fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

Not a bad jacket but the arms are pretty tight if you put on a long sleeve under it. The jump to XL is too much since they really widen the stomach area. I don't recommend this for folks with wider backs.

Better Sweater Jacket

  • Size Bought: medium

Nice look but, ordered a medium, arms were too long and very tight with even just a long sleeve shirt underneath.

All pilling, all the time

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I own two for work as do all of my coworkers. It has a reasonable fit and is somewhat warm, but it pills more than any other jacket I've owned. After a couple of washes the better sweater looks old and dingy, especially darker colors. What redeems it slightly is that Patagonia is up-front about it.

Unless you are specifically looking for this style of jacket, I would try something else.

Fleece

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

Great fleece. Warm and athletic fitting

Good quality, but mind the fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Medium

The product is excelent as all Patagonia stuffs. The only problem was the fit of the sweater. I knew it was regular fit but is too baggy for me. Its not what i was looking for.

Lives up to the name

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I gave this as a gift to my fiance and he loves it. Here's what he had to say:

"Warm, cozy, and durable. Looks great and has the awesome fit I’ve come to expect from Patagonia. I’m 5’9” and 160 lbs, and the size small fits me perfectly."

It’s heavy, but...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Xxl

It’s warm. It’s a little tight to get on and off. However, that’s what you want when your are trying to get another layer over the top. It’s not meant to be a windbreaker. My rain jackets work really well with these sleeves and trunk. And it is warm. I also like the high neck and zipper. It’s nice to start a hike all zipped up, and have the option to vent as you generate a higher heart rate.

The best Jacket/Sweater

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I love this Jacket because it feels soft as a sweater and also don´t let the wind pass through it.

You need something warm inside

Not like my another fleece jacket from Columbia, this one cannot stop cold air from penetrating through. I am wondering how this can be used for outdoor activities.

    Not warm, looks nice

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: L

I really love the way this jacket looks, and it is very soft inside, but it depressingly underperforms in the warmth department. It is significantly less warm than a Patagonia Synchilla or Arcteryx Delta AR. I have had it for over a year and keep throwing it on because it's a very nice looking jacket with Patagonia's high standard quality of production and soft interior. Good for around the house or anything above 55°F as the sleeves are too tight to accommodate much layering underneath. You're better off spending your money on a decent wool sweater if you want to look nice, or one of the hundreds of other 200wt fleeces on the market if you want fleece.

I'm 6' 175lbs with athletic build and the large fit perfectly. A little baggy/square in the torso but that is standard for Patagonia cut. Not nearly as baggy as Synchilla.

    Great fleece

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Nothing to complaint, fabric is really good, a lot of options regarding color, and it will keep you warm,

Gave as gift but have feedback

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

This was a great sweater, my friend really liked it.

    Awesome

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

This jacket runs true to size and is the perfect amount of warmth.

    Ehhh

Decent sweater jacket, however, the sleeves are extremely tight. If you’re wearing a long sleeve, good luck getting the jacket on and off.

      Color Difference

I purchased the shadow blue color, but upon seeing the product, the color is quite different that what is shown in the picture. I even checked twice if I had made any mistake in buying the color, but upon review, I did purchase the right product and the right product was received by me.

        Looks great, lasts long

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Large

My husband just retired his 5 year old Better Sweater zip up and upgraded to this one with the chest pocket. It's a nice warm fleece, that lasts forever and you can wear on a hike or to work. Highly recommend!
