Outdoor Research Valley Jacket - Women's
Outdoor ResearchValley Jacket - Women's

Understated and Functional.

As much as you love your dog, you aren't super keen on twinning with Fido on a wet, rainy day, so the next time you head out for a rainy walk, zip up the Outdoor Research Women's Valley Jacket. The Valley Jacket features a waterproof and windproof fabric that's also breathable, so not only are you protected from the rain and elements, but you won't become a sweaty hot mess. Additionally, the Valley Jacket features a hint of stretch for unimpeded mobility, which is awfully convenient when Fido decides to take off in search of smellier pastures clear across the dog park. Zippered ventilation runs from the bottom hem to the bicep, allowing you to dump excess body heat quickly and efficiently. Fully taped seams bolster your defense against moisture, while the packable, wire-brimmed hood offers ample protection, without getting in the way of a backpack, purse, or pony tail.

Finally, jacket I've been looking for!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I have looked off/on for a new rain jacket for a year. Was nervous about another jacket that promises to be breathable (last one was older, so it always left me feeling sticky and damp when it rained in summer). This one is soft (not crunchy and loud!), very breathable, the right length, has pit zips and elastic AND velcro cuffs, soft material around the collar, and I loved the fact that it does have a "collar" instead of just running straight from zipper up to hood. The *only* thing I don't quite love is the placement of the adjustable drawstring thing on the center back of the hood. I decided to get over it since I will almost never be wearing the hood and leaning my head against a seat in a car, for instance. Otherwise, it would be lumpy and hard. Worn it in the rain the past two days, and never felt like I was going to start sweating in it! Also - I tried the Aspire by OR as well, and found it to be heavier, stinky (rubbery smell), less breathable, and not as slim cut as this one.
