One layer to rule them all.

The Outdoor Research Women's Uberlayer Insulated Hooded Jacket will put the rest of your insulating layers into early retirement thanks to its weather-resistant design and active insulation. Made with wind- and water-resistant stretch fabric and insulated with breathable Polartec Alpha insulation, the Uberlayer can be worn on its own during aerobic ascents and windy transitions or underneath a shell when a storm rolls in during your descent. The Uberlayer is fairly basic in design with a helmet-compatible hood, bound cuffs, and multiple pockets composing the notable features of this jacket.

Every outdoorswoman who engages in high-output activities needs an Uberlayer! I've been using this jacket in my ski touring kit as an insulator under my shell, and also to wear on the uphill on really cold days. It provides active insulation and breathes SUPER well so you don't end up freezing in pools of your own sweat. The aesthetic is simple, and the face fabric is very durable which I always appreciate. I also love the double zipper - a super nice feature if you are belaying or need to get to your beacon quickly.

Awesome down jacket!

This is my go-to down jacket for all things winter. I wear it as an outer layer on winter hikes, and under my ski jacket on cold days in the resort. I also wear it around town because I love the fit and the color (I got purple!) If you are looking for a down jacket, look no further. It keeps me warm and dry all through the winter!

Hey Amy, no down in this jacket. This is 100% Alpha from Polartec. A much better choice than down when you need insulation, but you cannot afford to overheat. This jacket allows for a "micro climate" exchange of your warmth in the jacket to the coolness of outside. Your body's movement generates the heat, while the Alpha allows you to breathe and maintain warmth. A great combination.

This is NOT the jacket you want if you are sedentary, though... the Uberlayer works best when moving!

Hope all of that makes sense.
