Cold weather ready.

You realize the temperature is dropping rapidly as you get closer to the summit, but thanks to the Outdoor Research Men’s Transcendent Down Jacket, warmth is waiting in the bottom of your pack. With lightweight yet lofty 650-fill down insulation and a pocket that doubles as a stuff-sack, there’s no reason to leave this jacket behind on any adventure where things could get chilly.

Once you reach the summit the wind starts picking up and a light drizzle begins to fall, but you’re covered with the Transcendent’s water- and wind-resistant fabric. Shove your hands into the cozy lined pockets—partially for warmth and partially because you’re searching for a leftover snack—and take in the view.

  • Go from summit to crag to dinner with this versatile jacket
  • Compressible down insulation can be worn under a shell
  • Stuff-sack pocket offers seamless packability
  • Lined pockets keep hands warm during redpoint burns
  • Box-baffles secure down for optimal insulation and longevity

Favorite Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This jacket is awesome! It's lightweight and packable making it a great addition to my hunting gear.

Major disappointment

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I'm surprised by the positive reviews for this jacket. I own several other down jackets, and this one is -- by far -- my least favorite. It's lightweight but not very warm. The down is unevenly distributed. The quality is poor and it looks pretty cheap. The tag at the neck (used to hang the jacket on a hook) tore off, and I don't know how. I regret this purchase very much.

Hey Matthew, I am sorry that this did not work for you. It makes me think that you got one that was not up to our quality. I'm not sure what temps you are going for with this jacket, but it's position is that it can be an outer jacket and also a layering piece. I would suggest you contact OR and warranty it - they will take care of you.

Thank you,

Great Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Breathable material that is light weight, ordered an XL and there is room to wear layers underneath. Warm enough to wear on its own.

Hey there Cesar - I 100% agree. Great piece to have in the quiver!

Happy Trails,

Comfortable

Great coat not bulky but plenty of warmth.

    Thanks for the review!

Just ordered, tried it at store before

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

5'10 170 lbs, typical build. Ordered a large, so light weight, almost felt like you were not wearing anything. Heading up to Canada and can't wait to try it out. BTW, Julia's husband.

Thanks so much for the review, Julia!

Best option to use with a shell!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This does not have a hood so it won't be obnoxious when I start wearing it under my snowboarding jacket. It doesn't limit your range of motion at all. You don't need more than a t-shirt underneath if you're just walking around at 45 degrees outside. If you wear a medium shirt you probably wear a medium jacket; it fits perfectly.

    Thank you!

    How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
    Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
    Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
    Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
    Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
